Roswell is set to rebooted after plans for a pilot episode were green-lit by US TV network The CW.
The sci-fi teen series originally aired from 1999 to 2002, running for three seasons on The WB and UPN in the US. The show aired in the UK on the BBC, and also went by the name Roswell High.
After reports spread back in October that a reboot of the show was in the works, news has now emerged that Roswell is officially being revived by The CW.
Initially given a pilot order, the revival is being written by The Originals producer Carina MacKenzie and will continue to take inspiration from Melinda Metz’ original book series Roswell High.
The CW have given fans a hint of what’s to come in the Roswell reboot by providing an official synopsis.
“After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life.
“She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.”
The CW also recently ordered a reboot of Charmed – news which wasn’t particularly well-received by members of the show’s original cast.
