  • My upbringing being what it was, I have a lot of memories involving my mom coming home from the bar a little earlier than normal and obviously drunk. (Recently, we were on the phone, and she said, "There was a time in my life where I wouldn't be caught dead staying in on a Friday night." Yes mother I too remember my adolescence.) Anyway one night she came home while I was watching TV, and that night for whatever reason I was giving Mind of Mencia a(nother) shot. Maybe this time it'd be good! And my mom, my very drunk mom, she comes home, sits in the living room with me. She was occasionally grossed out, but she did seem to enjoy the show overall. So like at the end, we all remember this, Carlos Mencia signs off by saying, "If you ain't laughin', you ain't livin'." And my mom hears this and says, "That's so true. That's SO true. Oh my God." This has stayed with me. Carlos Mencia resonated with my mother and this haunts me.
