To sum it up Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.”(ESV)  Hope is an expectation, deferred means removed.  So then we may rightly say that a removed expectation will make the heart sick.  If our expectation is in things or people that can be removed then our heart remains sick, and if our expectation is in Christ Who cannot be removed then our hearts will be made well (whole).  When my hope shifted to Christ in complete surrender my heart was healed.  I received justification by faith with complete forgiveness, after that the addiction and depression had to go.  I am redeemed!!!!!
