Only one special effects artist can claim to have worked on the first three Jurassic Park films, Interview with a Vampire, Peter Jackson’s King Kong, Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy, Iron Man, and the Netflix show Stranger Things — and played a sheep in the 2006 horror film, Black Sheep. That artist’s name? Kevin McTurk. Now, the creature effects wizard, puppet designer, and puppeteer has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his film, The Haunted Swordsman, about a disgraced Samurai and the severed head who offers to guide him on a quest for vengeance. Set in a world of demons and ghosts and inspired by traditional Japanese theater the film will utilize 36-inch tall “Bunraku” puppets, traditional in-camera effects and “good old-fashioned smoke-and-mirrors trickery.”

The Haunted Swordsman follows McTurk’s short films The Narrative of Victor Karloch and The Mill at Calder’s End, both of which also featured puppets and were made as the result of previous, successful Kickstarter campaigns.
