When The Walking Dead returns for season 8 on Oct. 22, the occasion will also mark its 100th episode. To help fans gear up for the big milestone, AMC released a new video of important highlights from the first 99 episodes. Taken together, it’s remarkable how far Rick Grimes and the gang have come in their attempt to survive a zombie-infested apocalypse.

The video highlights moments from Rick first waking up in the hospital, to the group’s time in the prison, toward their recent encounter with Negan and his Saviors. There are warm moments (Glen and Maggie’s relationship) and heartbreakers (Carol shooting Lizzie). In Hershel’s words, “We get our behinds kicked for awhile, then we bounce back. It’s Nature correcting herself.”
