The annual comic convention returned to San Diego for its 47th event

 

The biggest comic convention in the world returned this weekend, bringing with it tonnes of new trailers, updates and reveals for all your favourite television series and movies.

Didn’t manage to stay up to date over the weekend? Here’s a run down on the biggest reveals…

Stranger Things

As anticipated, SDCC saw the reveal of the latest Stranger Things trailer. Soundtracked by Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, with narration from Vincent Price, it gives the first look at the new season, including the return of Eleven.

Shannon Purser, who played fan favorite Barb, also appeared, but not on the panel, instead as a member of the audience. Asking whether here character would be responding in Season 2. “I can answer that: no” David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, responded; but they did promise there would be justice for Barb.

Thor: Ragnarok

The third installment in the Thor series: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, debuted a new trailer at Comic Con. Released on November 3, 2017, people are losing it over the trailer as the Hulk talks.

Game of Thrones

There weren’t many big shocks or secrets revealed on the Game of Thrones panel, but we are midway through Season 7. However they did reveal a weeks ahead preview, that showed an unusual duo coming together in the form of red witch Melisandre and Daenerys.

Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle

If you were at the Kingsman panel you would have been lucky enough to see the opening footage from the new film. Beginning with an epic fight and car chase, fans also saw the reappearance of Charlie (Edward Holcraft) – a Kingsman recruit who failed in training. Shortly before the panel, a new trailer for the movie was revealed, which includes some of the opening footage:

They also showed this fun crossover – of when the Kingsman met Archer:

And Halle Berry proved she as a badass by chugging half a pint of whisky.

Marvel’s The Defenders

Making their debut at Comic Con, if you’d been in attendance you would have had the chance to see the first episode of Marvel’s The Defenders. The series will bring together characters from Netflix’s four superhero shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist), and will start streaming on 18 August, 2017. For those not lucky enough to see the first episode, Netflix also revealed a new trailer for the show.

Westworld

J.J. Abrams sci-fi western is due to return in 2018, and Comic Con saw the reveal of a new trailer, despite only having started filming a few weeks ago. With the first season receiving rave reviews (and 22 Emmy nominations), the anticipation for season two is high. Featuring Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores shooting at people on horseback, if the trailer is anything to go by, Westworld season two is one to get excited about.

Justice League

A sneak preview of ‘Justice League’ was revealed. The new footage shows the world in mourning after the death of Superman, and Ben Affleck’s Batman bringing together Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg to protect the world.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead panel began with a tribute to stuntman John Bernecker who died last week on the show’s set, with executive producer Scott Gimple revealing they weren’t sure whether they should have done the panel.

Following the tribute, they then revealed a new five-minute trailer for Season 8 of the show, which premiers on 22 October, 2017.

Doctor Who

Pearl Mackie, who plays the companion to Peter Capaldi’s Dr Who, revealed that the Christmas special would be the last time her character Bill Potts appeared on the television series.

“No, that’s it – Christmas special, last chance to see Bill”, she told a panel at San Diego’s Comic Con over the weekend….But, I mean, hey, it’s Doctor Who so never say never”.

The panel also revealed the first trailer for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, which will be titled ‘Twice Upon A Time’. The episode will air on Christmas Day.

‘READY PLAYER ONE’

The trailer for Steven Spielberg film ‘READY PLAYER ONE’ was also revealed. Based on the novel by Ernest Cline, it stars X-Men actor Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts, a teenager searching for an easter egg in a virtual reality game.

Also starring Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T.J.Miller, ‘READY PLAYER ONE’ will be released on March 30, 2018.
