This is the band's first new music in five years.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have released their first new single in five years. Based on how it sounds, though, the band is acting as if no time has passed at all. With a softer approach to their funk-meets-punk rock, "Dark Necessities" may as well been part of RHCP's last album, 2011's I'm With You. (That record was also the first without longtime guitarist John Frusciante.) The only difference is that, while Rick Rubin executive produced I'm With You, RHCP has teamed with Danger Mouse this time.

"Dark Necessities" is the lead single off The Getaway, out June 17. See the tracklist below.
