Pacific Rim 2 has its director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven S. DeKnight will make his feature directorial debut with the sequel to Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham's 2013 film, where giant fighter robots war against monsters from the deep.

Steven created the Starz TV show Spartacus and most recently was executive producer of Marvel's Netflix series Daredevil. If his Twitter is any indication, Guillermo is excited to work with Steven.

"Met w DeKnight and we are all so happy with our choice to take Pac Rim 2to [sic] where we know it can go!!" he says. "Now Pac Rim is a known property and we can expand big! More news soon! But- as I said a few weeks ago: this is happening and the ideas we have are great!! Buenas noches from Toronto... Dream of Kaijus and Mecha!!"

Steven has also written, directed and produced for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse and Smallville.
