You'll need more than gel and hairspray to pin down these luscious locks!

Being a professional wrestler is tough. Between life on the road, the grueling physical toll on your body and the often times negative crowd reaction, one just has to be a different breed to choose that path. Now to be a successful wrestler, well…that’s an entirely different thing. In an industry known for crazy antics and personalities, to try and standout from the pack, wrestlers sometimes take extreme actions to ensure their gimmick gets over with the masses.

What’s the secret formula of creating a popular wrestling persona? Most would say a combination of wrestling ability, attire and promo skills. They wouldn’t be wrong as it definitely takes a little of each of those to make sure you shine. But the most important element that people forget about is HAIR! Glorious luscious hair! It’s all about the hair, as the musical declares:

If you have it, you’re constantly messing with it. If you don’t have it, you’re constantly thinking of it. Your hairstyle says many things about who you are, how seriously you take yourself and if you are destined for wrestling greatness. If only The Barber Shop run by Brutus the Barber Beefcake were real, so that spandex gladiators in need of a new 'do could seek help. Whether it’s a mullet, a Mohawk, a rainbow colored explosion or just a bad cut, professional wrestling has delivered some eye-catching styles. Highlighting the bad, the bold and beautiful, here are the 8 most outrageous haircuts in pro wrestling.

Before we start, here's some Honorable Mentions:

Heath Slater

Shawn Michaels

Luna Vachon

The Undertaker

Hulk Hogan

“You know something, Brother…” is how the Hulkster tends to start off interviews. Sure, the 24-inch pythons and biker mustache catches your eye in promos, but what really propelled Hogan to iconic heights was that golden mane clinging on to the sides of his head. Hulk’s hair is one-of-a-kind — a constant through all the decades he’s been around. Balding is a curse for most men, but in Hogan’s case it’s been a blessing of sorts. It’s given him an ageless look, since he’s always appeared 10-15 older than he actually was. He’s covered up the front with a variety of bandanas, but those shoulder length platinum locks will never be cut as long as Hulkamania is alive!

Paul Heyman

Even though Paul Heyman looks like he’s following Hogan’s skullet look, it hasn’t always been the case. The outspoken, mad-genius of professional wrestling has gone through various questionable hairstyles over the decades. As the young brash manager Paul E. Dangerously, Heyman was trying to rock the Gordon Gecko look but just ended up with a slick-backed mullet. During his ECW years, he wore a baseball cap to cover up the bald on top, but with a long ponytail in the back. Nowadays, as the advocate to Brock Lesnar, Heyman has disposed of the trademark ponytail embracing a sleek, clean business style.

Bull Nakano

Crowds today might think that Asuka, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch are wild and cool thanks to their Jem and The Holograms colored hair. But these three talented ladies ain’t got nothing when it comes to Bull Nakano’s extreme, loud and legendary hairstyle.

The no-nonsense Japanese superstar that made her way to WWE in the mid ‘90s was known for her vicious fighting style and punk rocker appearance, thanks to her face paint and Bride of Frankenstein-inspired hair. A cross between an anime character and something out of a horror film, Bull was simply amazing, ahead of her time in all aspects of her character. A women’s innovator in terms of wrestling style and what women wrestlers could look like.

Enzo Amore

He may be a “certified G and a bonafide stud,” but what he really can’t “teach” is the Enzo Amore hair style. The undisputed, current hair champ is hands down Amore, who has given us the most disturbing yet hilariously wonderful hairstyles to grace the mat in recent years. What Enzo lacks inside the ring, he makes up for with his promo skills, tacky appearance and wild locks. His love of leopard print and Michael Jackson jackets is only outdone by his love of patterns, dye jobs and rat tails on his head.

The Red Rooster

Imagine you finally reach the bigtime of WWE and the gimmick Vince McMahon and his brain-trust bestow upon you is that of The Red Rooster with an equally horrible red Mohawk (ala a rooster’s comb) to match. Poor Terry Taylor, as that’s the hand he was dealt in trying to be a WWE Superstar during the late 1980s. An accomplished and rising young wrestler who could never shake off that kiss of death of a gimmick, he became a cautionary tale for all pro wrestlers since.

Sheamus

While most wrestlers avoid any comparisons to The Red Rooster, Sheamus has tried to see how far he can get away with unusual red hairstyles of his own. Fans can keep chanting “you look stupid” at him, but we highly doubt the Celtic powerhouse cares. When your hair is bright fire red and you have a Casper the Friendly Ghost skin complexion, it’s hard to go unnoticed.

When Sheamus first arrived in WWE, he had the spikey hair, ala Beaker of The Muppets. Last year, the big man changed things up sporting a braided beard, shaved sides of the head and a red Mohawk. Fans may not like it, but Conan O’Brien gives his approval.

The Road Dogg

During the Attitude Era in the late ‘90s, Road Dogg was the mouthpiece of The New Age Outlaws and a member of Degeneration X. At the time kids thought he was cool because he could cut funny promos and do some rapping at the same time. Looking back now, boy did we miss the biggest sign that good ol’ Road was just the Chris Kirkpatrick of the group — rocking the dreadlock-bun look that only an *NSYNC member could!

Koko B. Ware

Sisqo, Chris Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. all owe a good amount of inspiration to the Birdman of WWE for his blonde locks. The entry winner for the hairstyle we all might be sporting within the next few months (macaw included), comes courtesy of Koko B. Ware. The fun loving Koko, who brought dancing, ‘80s style and a large macaw bird named “Frankie” to WWE, had an unforgettable signature blonde and blue fade that went well with the “I Want My MTV” era. Not only was the macaw Koko’s pet and friend, but apparently it was also his spirit animal, as he took on the same colors.
