First Legos, now Pez.

PEZ Candy, Inc. is partnering with Envision Media Arts to create an animated movie starring PEZ Candy dispensers. Yes, this is a real thing.

Cameron Fay (The Three Stooges Movie, Brother In Law) has been picked to pen the script, while EMA's Lee Nelson and David Buelow will produce. Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer and Jonathan Hung are responsible for bringing the project to the production company and will executive produce alongside David Tish from EMA.

PEZ first appeared in 1927 as a breath mint created by Austrian Eduard Haas III. The candy's named was derived from the German word "pfefferminz," meaning "peppermint." The first dispensers were designed in 1948 to look like cigarette lighters in an effort to encourage people to quit smoking. Less than a decade later, the character dispensers we know and love were born.

“Pez candy is beloved by children and adults alike," EMA founder and CEO Lee Nelson said about the candy, according to Variety. "With Cameron Fay we’ve created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many."

There is no information on the plot or which PEZ dispensers the movie may feature, including but not limited to characters from the Muppets, Star Wars, and the Disney universe. The untitled project does not have a release date.
