Thank you so much for adding me.
I dedicated my book to all those you have served in the Armed Forces and to their families. To the fallen troops, I wrote a special note:
Though I might have been a stranger to you, you are not a stranger to me: You live in my family's freedom.
God Bless our troops.

SUICIDE SOLUTION

Soldier Suicides at Record Level
Increase Linked to Long Wars, Lack of Army Resources

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/30/AR2008013003106.html?wpisrc=_rssworld

By Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, January 31, 2008; A01

Lt. Elizabeth Whiteside, a psychiatric outpatient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center who was waiting for the Army to decide whether to court-martial her for endangering another soldier and turning a gun on herself last year in Iraq, attempted to kill herself Monday evening. In so doing, the 25-year-old Army reservist joined a record number of soldiers who have committed or tried to commit suicide after serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

"I'm very disappointed with the Army," Whiteside wrote in a note before swallowing dozens of antidepressants and other pills. "Hopefully this will help other soldiers." She was taken to the emergency room early Tuesday. Whiteside, who is now in stable physical condition, learned yesterday that the charges against her had been dismissed.

Whiteside's personal tragedy is part of an alarming phenomenon in the Army's ranks: Suicides among active-duty soldiers in 2007 reached their highest level since the Army began keeping such records in 1980, according to a draft internal study obtained by The Washington Post. Last year, 121 soldiers took their own lives, nearly 20 percent more than in 2006.

At the same time, the number of attempted suicides or self-inflicted injuries in the Army has jumped sixfold since the Iraq war began. Last year, about 2,100 soldiers injured themselves or attempted suicide, compared with about 350 in 2002, according to the U.S. Army Medical Command Suicide Prevention Action Plan.

The Army was unprepared for the high number of suicides and cases of post-traumatic stress disorder among its troops, as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have continued far longer than anticipated. Many Army

"Prophets For Freedom" - (Rhonda Cunningham - 7/13/08)

I see the fires now burning everywhere I look from every angle in sight,
My eyes they burn from the smoke filled winds, of fires out of control.
Every door opened is an opportunity to stare death in the face,
I am praying that God is with me on these holy grounds and guides me spiritually.
Always praying that I will make it through this hell on earth,
That has now become my life, as I am, one of their prophets for freedom.

God will turn His eyes away from the evil that has taken this land,
And focus on the good that reaches out a hand to all those in need.
He shall do His work through the spirits of the prophets, which he has sent,
To help His people out of the suffering and abuse from the relentless ones.
Once more shall they have the spiritual peace and freedom that they so deserve,
Once more shall His ways be in place and the evil be driven out of His land.

"These Eyes Which See The Truth" -(by Rhonda Cunningham- 7/13/08)

God Bless....

These eyes which see the truth,
All the harshness of the world's grave fate.
Bearing now for all to see, a heart that can no longer hold,
The feelings inside, of which have a will of their own.
No past wounds can heal and now lay before me,
Like a carpet of bleeding grass, freshly cut and left to mold.
Weathering no answers of the why or the where,
Of the who, for all of the flowers that wither and fall away,
As that of lives lost and torn apart, held in the minds of those who stay.
To carry on their lives for all who care, for all which is just and right,
For these eyes which see the truth, for they may see another glow of light.

"Youth Spent Too Soon" (by Rhonda Cunningham)

Much too young, youth spent for such a gallant cause,
War and power, all not a game to play but surreal, of an untimely death.
For all of the moments of growing up in a mother's watchful loving heart,
Disregarded by an evil eye, the eye of a serpent deep in the wind blown sand dunes.
Glaring sun on sand, piercing burning a whole right the the retina, allowing no escape,
Heat and exhaustion, to the point of feeling faint, yet never to give up on life.
For what will be played out over the following months, will seem like a lifetime,
Sweet youth lost, spent all too soon with eyes wide open, taken aback freely.
But never speaking of what's been seen or the experiences frozen in the mind,
For wars are only death for many, for others, youth spent too soon.
Rhonda

"A Silent Cry"

A silent cry of the truth is now spreading across this nation,
A sweeping tone of attitude, from the brutal revelations.
For this war's enemy has no mercy, for soldiers or for themselves.
A living, walking breathing bomb, unwilling to give up the fight for their sacred beliefs.
Death is alive, walking around with thoughts of premeditated murder,
Looking for another soul to steal in an instant, for time has no boundaries.
And as another soldier is bombed to death today,
A silent cry from a living soldier, will not be heard.
A silent cry will not be heard....but from you and I.
Rhonda

White Collars (by Rhonda-2008)

I don't want to hear that soldiers had a choice,
What difference does that make yes, they chose to fight in a war.
As you drive around all day in your fancy cars,
Just remember, were not for them you'd not be 'where' you are.

What I mean by where you are, are the freedoms that you have,
Until you walk in shoes of men, some who have fallen,
All for freedom's sake,
Just shut your mouth, sit back down and quietly go away.

Little men that have no interest of what they do for dollars,
That sit all day in perfect worlds, wearing their 'white' collars.
Should we take you down by the hand and show you what you've caused,
All for what you wanted: it's black, priced like gold, its causes lying cold.
