Daniel A. Weiss (not to be confused with the 40 other Dan, Danny, and Daniels) is equally comfortable playing piano, Hammond organ, guitar, or working behind a mixing console. He also plays accordion. Daniel was the associate conductor/assistant music director of the New York Theatre Workshop production of Rent and continued in that role for seven years on Broadway. He's also been associate conductor on the shows Taboo and Brooklyn. Daniel recently worked on the show “Ten Million Miles” which featured the music of Patty Griffin.
Recent theater workshops include Tarzan (Phil Collins) and Helen of Troy (Brian Johnson, AC/DC). When available Daniel also performs on the Broadway shows Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Mamma Mia.
Recent albums that feature Daniel's producing, playing, singing, songwriting, and arranging include CD's by folk/pop artists Ina May Wool, Joe Ferreri and Elisa Korenne, guitar virtuoso Vicki Genfan and the indie film, Camp. He has performed with Ina May Wool on stages nationally and internationally including the Edinburgh Folk Festival, Alice Tully Hall, and the Falcon Ridge and Mountain Stage NewSong Festivals and continues in the role of her music director/co-writer.
Daniel recently finished up a short west coast tour with Joan Osborne and is now performing with singer Jeffrey Gaines as well as Anthony Rapp(original cast of Rent) in his one man show, Without You. He's now arranging and producing an album for folk scene icon, James Durst as well as working with soulful rock/pop vocalist Valerie Carter ("Ooh Child"/ James Taylor) having recently gigged in Japan with her. He’s part of a music project called String Theory whose members include Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel) and Mike Visceglia (Suzanne Vega). String Theory gigs and records with several excellent vocalists.
