  • This is MISS CRIMSON DunHuang-ancient silk
road series scarf. It’s inspired by the painting of Mogao cave 257, which
painted in Northern Wei dynasty (439-534 AD), this is the earliest painting at
Dunhuang with a horizontal band of multiple scenes.

The painting illustrates the Sutra of the
Nine-colored Deer King: the nice-colored (symbolic of rarity) Deer king,
rescues a drowning man. The king wants to capture this deer for its precious
horns and beautiful skin, and the rescued man leads hunters to the deer’s
hideout for a great reward. But the king spares the deer when he learns about
the betrayal. The man soon develops scabby sores all over his body as
    punishment.

The nine episodes proceed from the two
sides to the middle, where the climax of the story portrays the conversation
between the king and the deer. This arrangement shows that a story is not
necessarily depicted in a chronological sequence.
