Somewhere between dredge and deranged, right? Yes, that’d be about right. Lake District brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless are frankly bored, disillusioned and nasty, though their nascent videos display a hooligan-with-a-heart indie-conscientiousness. UK music critic Ben Marshall reviews 'Taksim Meydan'
Scorpio Rising are a band that belong to a different era, a time when bands were searching for new pop language, weren't afraid to be political or be called pretentious. That era which began in the immediate aftermath of punk and ended sometime in the late 80's or early 90's and produced everyone from The Banshees, through Orange Juice to The Happy Mondays saw its creative spirit all but obliterated by Simon Cowell and a tediously repetitive post Brit pop consensus. (Those interested in finding out about should read Simon Reynolds excellent book about the period, Rip It Up And Start Again).
Scorpio Rising behave as if none of this had happened, a trick they can perhaps pull off having exiled themselves to Turkey. This single is instantly antagonisitc. The guitars are jagged, angry and discordant, and they parenthesise an angry vocal chant, that has me thinking of Gang of Four and The Fall. In 2001, David Bowie went into the studio to start work on a new album. Towards the end of the sessions, he decided that some of the work would survive onto his next album, which would become Heathen. The rest, new interpretations of his past lesser-known songs, and a handful of new tracks, became k

'Taksim Meydan' has been out there a week now, and plays on Radyo Fil, Radionovo, Joy FM, forthcoming on BBC Radio Wales, 550 plus youtube plays have all brought great reviews...here's one from Phil Baisley in the US:
'Parker’s lead vocals are aggressive as usual, but Nazli Şensoy’s backing vocals add something special. I kept listening for what she’d do next. At some points I detected a late Beatles sound. Musically, I loved the changes between Turkish “funk” and a more traditional sound. It gets better with each play'
