Larry Palombo, VP of Tobacco for Altadis USA, gave a Seminar about
tobacco leaves. This was part Mike's Cigars trip to the Connecticut
Tobacco Farm Tour hosted by Altadis USA. Larry explains that broadleaf
is heavy duty tobacco. Even if you buy it, $8 a pound, it yields poor
results. It has a lot of wasted big leaf with big veins. With
tobacco plants the leaves at the bottom are thinner and has less flavor,
burns very well. The upper part of the plant receives more sunlight,
the plants get heavier, thicker, and browner. That’s true of any tobacco
even broadleaf. Leaf at top get a little smaller but get heavy and
