We got an up close visit from this ginormous beast of a polar bear. Even high up in the Tundra Buggy, he was still intimidatingly large with paws that were at least a foot wide.

Still going through some Churchill shots - Here a red fox looks into a brisk wind.

Since I haven't been out much since returning from the Churchill trip, I don't have much new work locally. Therefore, I present to you more sparring polar bears!

This is the night sky over Theodore Roosevelt National Park. What was once a completely dark sky is now littered with abundant light, not from nearby towns, but from the oil and gas expansion in the region that has consumed every surrounding square mile. The park has tragically become an island of natural beauty amongst a sea of harmed land and pollution, both in terms of waste in the air and light.

While up in Churchill, we checked every night for northern lights, only to find clouds blanketing the sky each night. On our last night, a thick fog rolled in and blocked us once again. The next morning, I woke up early to check, and lo and behold, the sky was filled with auroras! It was a great going away present from Churchill.

I revisited the great gray owl again yesterday and was able to come away with plenty more opportunities of him flying and landing. As I mentioned yesterday, this is a very unusual great gray given how relaxed and welcoming he's been around people. I'm trying to decide if I should nickname him 399 or '06.

Here's another shot of a black bear from a couple of weeks ago in Grand Teton National Park. He had climbed up a pine tree in order to reach the higher berries, but sometimes that's not even enough.

With only one real road off of the highway to travel in GTNP now, that road has since become a bit clogged, especially when a moose is out. Fortunately, I was able to photograph this nice bull all by myself elsewhere while he chased around a cow with two calves.

Now that I have some free time, I'm catching up on a backlog of images. This was a black bear that had climbed up a tree to reach some of the higher berries. Another early winter storm had come through leaving his fur wet.

Before the park closure, I had hiked into Two Ocean Lake Road, an area I was hoping to explore again right about now since colors should have been peaking in the area as well as seeing plenty of evidence of bears and wolves. Alas, it doesn't look like that will pan out this season. I was able to catch a few shots though, this being one of them, late last week.

The Teton Mountains made a brief appearance this morning as another early winter storm began to clear exposing some of the higher peaks.
