Singer is due to play Auckland Spark Arena tonight (April 24)
Billie Eilish was moved to tears after a choir greeted her in New Zealand to a cover of one of her songs.
The Hātea Kapa Haka group welcomed the singer as she landed at Auckland International Airport with a haka and a rendition of her track ‘After The Party’s Over’. You can watch footage of the performance below.
The 17-year-old plays a sold-out show at Auckland’s Spark Arena tonight (April 24), with support from her brother and collaborator, Finneas.
The Hātea Kapa Haka group, from Whangarei, are made up of members of their marae and others in the Whangarei region. The group went viral last year with their te reo Māori cover of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
Meanwhile, Eilish was recently bumped up to a higher slot at this year’s Glastonbury festival due to massive popularity.
The singer was due to perform on the John Peel Stage, marking one of her first appearances since releasing debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ last month.
But after the record shot to number one, the huge surge in popularity means that she’ll now perform to a larger crowd on the festival’s Other Stage.
“We’re currently moving her – she’s on John Peel at the moment but she’s much too big, really, for the slot,” Emily Eavis said.
“It’s happened so quickly for Billie Eilish. It’s been such an amazing year. It really is going to be her summer.”
Last weekend Eilish made her Coachella debut, with NME claiming that the performance was worthy of a future headliner.
“As with every other chapter in her story so far, her Coachella debut points to things getting even more mind-blowingly wild for her very soon,” our verdict stated.
“Tonight (April 13), Eilish made her mark, not only as a hype act that can justify every positive word said about her, but as a future headliner and, perhaps, the future of pop.”
