East Coast quartet put their dreams in their music — and it's paid off on their debut album.

Poeta may have gotten its name from a gravestone, but the band's music aims to uplift, not pull down. In fact, their debut, Golden Fields, was named after a song that vocalist/guitarist Kevin Torres wrote after being told he was “nothing but a dreamer.” He added, “I was told to put my life into perspective and to make school a priority over music, but that just wasn’t what was going to make me happy. This song is about standing tall and rising up above the noise even when everyone is against you because dreams do come true, all it takes is a little bit of faith in yourself.”

The quartet — made up of Kevin Torres (vocals, guitar), Anthony Dentino (guitar), Sean Shewan (bass) and George Powell (percussion) — recorded Golden Fields at Overlook Studios and was produced by Bruce Wiegner (Victory in Numbers, Rivers Monroe).

Powell talks to Myspace about their ultra-romantic name, how Philly has influenced the band and the band’s storied history. Hop to the next page to read the full interview.
