Comfort, creativity and convenience were three keys to what made the clothing of nu metal so great.

When rock met hip-hop, and combined the most aggressive aspects of both, nu metal was born. Some people loved it, a lot of people loathed it, but at one point in the late ‘90s it was one of the preeminent genres in all of music, dominating everything from rock playlists to TRL.

Like most genres of music, nu metal wasn’t just a sound — there was also a look that went with it. Whether you were doing it all for the “Nookie,” or felt like you “Got The Life,” chances are there were some very specific pieces in your wardrobe that let the world know you were a nu metal fan.

Here are 10 such fashion items from the nu metal era that we absolutely loved.
