Video for "Under These Lights" is about the importance of unity and love among us all.

Greek artist Xenia Ghali — DJ, producer, songwriter and classically trained musician — has a sound, a name and a look that was made for the stage. Her breakthrough hit “Broken” featured Katt Rockell and was released on Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records. She then followed that with “Get Dirty,” a collaboration with ex-Fugees member Wyclef Jean. Xenia wrote music for designer Michael Costello's 2015 fashion show and is a brand ambassador for G-Star Raw and Eastpak in Greece. On “Under These Lights,” Xenia parlayed her deejaying skills into creating a slick, catchy house track with pulsing beats. (It landed on Bilboard Dance Club Songs chart at No. 1.)

Xenia Ghali talks to Myspace about growing up in Greece, Fatboy Slim as an inspiration, and the making of "Under These Lights."

Hometown: Athens Greece

Homebase: New York City

What was your first electronic music experience like, and did it change your life?

I was really young, probably six or seven years old, and I watching television. All of a sudden Fatboy Slim's “Right Here Right Now" came on. I remember being completely blown away by it, and it became one of my favorite tracks. I was infatuated by the electronic sound.

Which artists inspire you to create?

I've been classically trained on the piano and the flute since I was five years old and later when I was 15 I picked up the guitar and the drums while also forming a high school rock band. I grew up listening to a lot of rock music from my dad, disco and pop music from my mom. Having grown up in Greece I was exposed to a lot of house and dance music too, as it is very much embedded in the culture. As such, I couldn't say that I have one artist that I primarily listen to or one style of music that I prefer. I have grown up with a lot of musical genres and styles. My inspirations range from classical music to electronic. I am inspired by a lot of different artists and because of that, I fuse what I love into something that I consider my own. I always say that good music is good music no matter what genre it is.

Describe your style to someone who’s never heard you before.

Melodic, driving and passionate.

What is “Under These Lights” about? What inspired the song — and consequently, the making of the video?

The world is in a very negative place at the moment. There is a lot of hate, anger, racism, discrimination and aggression. “Under These Lights” is about the importance of unity and love amongst all of us. It depicts a very optimistic and euphoric message, one of which I feel the world is missing right now.

This is what I wanted to communicate through the video as well. The video is action-based with fights scenes, chase scenes and a motorcycle scene! I actually did all my own stunts and action scenes (with the exception of the motorcycle scene). That was quite challenging and required a lot of training, but I wanted to be a part of it as much as I physically could. The video also has beautiful imagery and styling (created with the help of my stylist and art director Fani Polychroniou). In addition to the entertaining and action experience however, I wanted the video to depict the message the song speaks of in a subtle and discreet way. That was perhaps the most challenge thing about the making of the video.

You produced and creatively directed the video, right? What was that experience like?

Yes I did. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted the video to be and how it could be done. I love working with various art forms and that of course includes visuals. I am very proud of the music video. It was weeks worth of work as well as incredibly long hours. It was very hands on for me, from the editing stage all the way to the color correction and the visual fx. The experience was very tiring and very stressful but at the same time very fulfilling. I saw something I had in my imagination come to life and it felt incredible.
