Parody metal band from Los Angeles fuses Black Sabbath songs with junk food themes.
Here’s everything you need to know about Mac Sabbath: They’ve recreated metal band Black Sabbath’s songs into food-themed ditties, into a genre they like to call “drive-thru metal.” So instead of Iron Man, there’s “Frying Pan.” Instead of “Paranoid,” it’s “Pair-a-buns.” That, and they perform in costume, as vilified versions of McDonald’s characters: Ronald Osbourne, Slayer MacCheeze, Grimalice and Catburglar (aka "Peter Criss Cut Fries"). It’s a novelty act, sure, but a fun one, as “manager” Mike Odd explains to Myspace. (Mac Sabbath’s members refuse to do interviews and speak only through Odd, lead singer of the Los Angeles hard rock band Rosemary's Billygoat.)
Hometown: Mac Sabbath hails from Briminghamburger England.
Homebase: The band is currently based In Los Angeles, as am I. But I have been informed by Ronald Osbourne that he has traveled here through a worm hole in the time space continuum from the 1970's to save us all from the current state of rock and food and bring us back to the time when they were both genuine.
How did Mac Sabbath’s members get together?
I started receiving strange secret messages. Finally I agreed to meet up and solve the mystery at a fast food franchise in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. In walks an abomination. Dripping with smeared face paint and dirty red and yellow tassels scraping the ground. I was shocked horrified and delighted at the same time. He sat down in the booth with me and I listened to the clown pitch, by the time we were thrown out, he had convinced me to comeback late night after they were closed for a secret sauce session in the basement where I first saw these mutated fast food mascots playing Black Sabbath songs and screaming about Monsanto and GMOs. My life has not been the same since.
Why form a Black Sabbath cover band themed around junk food?
Ronald's message is very focused on 70s culture being superior to ours in the way of natural foods and real rock. Listen and you will hear. Build it and they will come.
Who are your biggest musical influences aside from the obvious Black Sabbath?
Ronald seems to be very influenced by Bozo as far as I can tell. he has no references past the 1970s.
How do you describe your music to someone who's never heard you before?
Black Sabbath while pelted with magical cheese burgers grown on magical burger trees.
Is Halloween Mac Sabbath’s favorite holiday?
Indeed!
Do you really think clowns are scary?
Well if you had to work with Ronald Osbourne you would know the answer to that. Nothing scares me more at this point in time!
Who would you love to collaborate with?
Well, I'm sure Black Sabbath would be Ronald's first choice. But we welcome any endorsement from legitimate organic food companies.
What's the craziest thing that’s happened to the band so far?
There was a very small girl who literally inserted herself into Grimalice in the middle of the show. She got past security and somehow crawled up inside of… well it's hard to explain, but once security figured it out they could not figure out how to remove her. None of us could. She stayed in for several songs, although he was moving awkwardly he was smiling the whole time and never missed a beat. So I guess no harm done. He had never spoke of the incident.
If you were a hashtag, what would you be?
Mac Sabbath is a family band, so we cannot indorse hash in any way.
What was the first song you ever wrote?
Rum-tum-da-bun-em cakes.
What was it about?
Smacking little chefs.
What's on your bucket list for the rest of 2016?
Quit as manager of Mac Sabbath. That clown is driving me MAAAAAD!
