It’s amazing how you can study sexual history through pop music. If in the '70s “YMCA” promoted (or hinted at promoting) easy sex and careless hookups, the post-AIDs '90s sex pop was much more health-conscious. That’s why Spice Girls’ biggest ballad “2 Become 1” included a clear message: do hook up, but be safe and wear a condom.
