The latest breakup rumor comes courtesy of 'Us Weekly.'

Is One Direction splitting for good? Us Weekly reports that the boy band decided to "not renew their recording contract" after wrapping their latest tour in October, according to an unnamed source. Another "insider" says that the remaining members want to pursue songwriting, production and even acting.

Of course, Us Weekly's latest "exclusive" is only the latest over the past few months to report of 1D's potential split. Plus, this comes after Syco label boss Simon Cowell confirmed that the group is taking time off this year. ("This has been five years non-stop, I'm amazed they did it for so many years," he said to Capital FM.)

That leads us to our next question: Why would One Direction renew its recording contract the same year it is going on hiatus?
