And the roster of musicians who signed up looks amazing.

SpongeBob Squarepants is coming to Broadway. The musical will debut in 2016 at Chicago's Oriental Theatre, before its Broadway opening in the 2016-2017 season. And while casting has yet to be announced, the roster of musicians tied to this project looks amazing. Artists range from John Legend to Cyndi Lauper, Lady Antebellum to T.I., and the Flaming Lips to Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Even David Byrne is contributing a song. In a press release, Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content development and production, swears that they're all "a dream team of SpongeBob fans."

SpongeBob Squarepants has already proven to do well outside of TV. This year's feature film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Waterknocked American Sniper out of the box office's top spot with $56 million in first week sales.
