If you still haven't watched the films or read the books, turn away now: Spoilers are afoot.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling picked this past weekend to tweet out an apology to fans, expressing her regret over killing off fan-favorite Fred Weasley:

Fred Weasley is the older brother of Ron Weasley and Ginny Weasley, and twin brother of George Weasley. The twins were known for their prankster antics, eventually moving onto open a joke shop (Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes) in Diagon Alley. Both Fred and George Weasley were a crucial part of the Order of the Phoenix, the secret society founded by Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore to eradicate the nefarious Lord Voldemort and his followers. It's during the final Battle of Hogwarts did Fred meet his end, dying during an explosion inside the castle.

Turns out, May 2 is the 17-year anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts—and the deaths of a few key Potter characters. When fans asked for apologies for other beloved faves, Rowling cheekily responded she was holding out: One apology per anniversary, sorry.
