Sounds Like
Cross has been described as "a young Johnny Cash"by Hot Press Magazine (Ireland)
"Vince is an Irish-Australian hybrid an his is the sound of two continents clashing, snatches of traditional folk melody and instrumentation(Cajun more than Irish)mixed with minimalist, echoey soundscapes and a bit a frank Zappa for good measure. In fact the whole thing comes across like Nick Cave high on the Dubliners". Andrea Thorn(MM) (London).
"In the East Village 2008, I heard a crystal clear voice that took me back to when I was being
introduced to mountain music groups and families of Appalachia. It was a pleasure to hear
such beauty coming out of Vincent Cross."
--Odetta
“Vincent writes interesting, new, traditional-sounding songs sung in the high lonesome style--the way I like it.”
--Buddy Merriam WUSB 90.1 FM Stony Brook, Radio Long Island, New York
“Vincent sings in the traditional high lonesome sound of the great Bill Monroe. You should definitely catch him when you can.”
--Adam Nash NYCbluegrass.com
Irish-Australian singer-songwriter Vincent Cross moved to New York City, where he hit the bluegrass scene with lightening speed in the summer of 2006. “All of a sudden I kept hearing the name ‘Vincent Cross’ and I was wondering, who is this guy?” said Adam Nash, founder of NYCBluegrass.com. Within three months, Cross met the ‘good company’ to help him to realize his vision of playing original songs with a traditional sound. Cross has an uncanny ability to write originals that don’t sound like originals. His voice captures the high lonesome sound that sounds eerily like Del McCoury’s.
Cross and his band have been building a following at venues around the city, including Banjo Jim’s, The Parkside Lounge, and The Hill Country, a new venue that is attracting a lot of press. Vincent Cross and Good Company was also showcased at the Baggot Inn’s “Sheriff Sessions.”
Vincent Cross’s latest recording, Laugh My Cry, showcases five of Cross’s original songs and can be previewed at: www.myspace.com/vincentcrossx.
Vincent Cross's music is available from CD baby and downloadable from iTunes.
