   About The Armed Forces

Forget your history. Invent yourself.

The Armed Forces is an experiment in improvisation, imagination, and insanity fronted by Brandon Jazz, the infamous singer/troublemaker of Memphis-based art-punk group Brooklyn Uk. With help from an assortment of losers, musicians, and drug addicts (a.k.a. his best friends), Jazz is proud to present "Modern Gospel For Modern Men & Women", a 12 and a half minute, 5-song EP about dangerous living, graffiti, one-night stands, criminal exploits, bad habits, bad decisions, freedom fighting, scene politics, and equal parts romantic optimism and cynicism.

The debut EP bridges the sonic gap between the frenetic energy of punk music and the classical soul sounds of Motown-era pop music, and it features guest appearances from some of Nashville's best new talent. Appearances include Jon Decious (The Pink Spiders, Dixie Whiskey), Duane Arnett (The Casual), Shawn Zorn (Brooklyn Uk, Japanda), Travis Hass (Brooklyn UK), Matt Brown (To High Heaven), Chelsea Marie (The Chelsea Marie Experience) and others. Recorded by Andrija Tokic (The Outlaw Lovers, Dixie Whiskey, tons more) at The Bomb Shelter in a couple days in July/August.

The result? Quite possibly the world's most dangerous pop band. Check it out and decide for yourself.

"Fuzz guitars, squeeling-tire feedback [and] glam rock vocals... Every song here has "Hit" written all over it"
-JERSEY BEAT

"This [album] will, no doubt, land him on a major radio station near you very soon."
-Redefine Magazine

"Full of clever lyrics and energy and clever hooks."
-Music-Reviewer.com

"Modern Gospel slings songs that gratuitously reference drugs, cheap sex and hangovers... like The Rolling Stones reincarnate."
-AVERSION.COM

"Jazz and co. have the retro-rock strut down...[and] implement its retro-kitsch well"
-POP MATTERS

"A great band [with] a definite, modern twist to their powerpop hook."
-THE ROCK AND ROLL REPORT

""Just raw enough to appeal [to] the scenesters but soft enough to have mainstream appeal, while being miles better than the majority of what's in the charts these days"
-ROCKFREAKS.NET

"Guaranteed to get your toe tapping and voice jumping."
-MW! PRODUCTIONS

"Reminds you that rules are made to be broken, especially in rock ‘n’ roll."
-PLUGINMUSIC.COM

"...a melody driven 5 song E.P. that fuses the energy and attitude of classic 70s punk rock, the instrumental trademarks and gospel-esque grooves of 60s era Motown, and earnest, angst ridden lyrics about dangerous living."
-NASHVILLEEDGE.COM

GOSPEL:

"It's much easier to wear a Chairman Mao button and shake your fists in the air and all that, then to actually read the Communist manifesto and things like that and actually become involved in politics. "
-LESTER BANGS

"The secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment is - To live dangerously."
- FRIEDRICH NIETZCHE

"if you don't have sex and you don't do drugs, your rock n' roll better be awfully good."
-ABBIE HOFFMAN

"I think for it to be unhip to be idealistic is weird, you know? I mean, even all the best rebels to me had some sense of hope in them."
-TOM PETTY

hi! I live around Asheville, NC.
I heard about your band from my brother, and I'll say you're one of my favourite bands. I'm hoping to make it up to NYC and see a show, or if you guys came down here that would be awesome too.
Love the new songs as well as the older ones!
