Too many to list. I listen to a lot of different stuff, but to say I listen to everything is a big lie. I don't like everything, so why say I like it? Even so, I do try to listen to as much as I can, no guarantee I'll enjoy it/think it's worth my attention. Out of everything I listen to, I take my biggest inspirations from these two genres...
Jazz. Mostly fusion, but the genre as a whole is a major influence. I find myself reaching more toward the past for idea instead of what's coming out now, mostly because a lot of jazz artists making music now are making themselves too accessible. There are a few doing their thing now that rise above the average, like Esperanza Spalding and Hiromi Uehara. I really dig acts like Coltrane, Chick Corea, Fourplay, Return to Forever, Gary Bartz, Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington, Jr., Acoustic Progressive Jazz, Alph Lyla, Bob James, Yesterday's New Quintet, Modern Jazz Quartet, Min Rager Quintet.
Hip-hop. OK, I'm gonna be real with you on this. I was fucking done with hip-hop by the time I got into high school. I was tired of the bullshit that you heard on TV and on the radio, it's unoriginality, and how it degraded so many aspects of life. It's kinda funny how I got back into it, though. I was watching something on The N, and when they used to show clips of music videos after shows, they showed someone named "Drake". He looked extremely familiar, and I realized it was Aubrey Graham, the homie that plays Jimmy on Degrassi. Call me a lame for this, but I went to listen to his stuff. No bullshit on this, he's one of the greatest rappers alive. When I heard him, it made me go "I didn't know people were doing THIS with hip-hop". It really opened my eyes. He's responsible for me even listening to more than just a handful of people like Jay-Z, Lupe and Kanye. I've now grown to love old-school stuff the most. People like DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (yes, they are one of the best duos ever in anything), Salt-n-Pepa, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Slick Rick, A Tribe Called Quest, the list can get pretty long for me. But yeah, in one sense or another, hip-hop saved my life. Speaking of that, shout out to Nikki Jean, she sent me a Christmas card. :)
I've Been Urkle For Some Years, It's Better Being Jaleel
I'm Syl. I'm 17 and I'm a saxophonist. Before I leave this planet, I'm going to make my mark. While there is always room for improvement, and I mean always, I will be the best at what I do. That has no exception. If I'm going to be known for something, it's going to be that my music reflects my state of being at that point of time, and it meant something to someone. With being said, don't judge me or my music by what you listen to on this page. If you want to know what my music is, talk to me.
Thanks for listening, guys.
I Do One Song And Use Four Flows...
When I get older, I would love to form a jazz group. I think it's just so fun to
play with other people and to get your music out to others through live performances. I listen to a lot of different stuff, anything I can
listen to, really. I just don't want my music or myself to ever sell out to become popular and make money. It's important to me that I play
with those I find really fresh, that I take inspiration from music I find entertaining and to play up to my expectations, despite what
others want me to do.
If you ever want to record something with me, stop by my website and contact me (click the Music Portfolio link at the top). I'd really like
doing stuff with other people, just give me the chance.

ha. that'd be a bit too risky for me. you know there's someone out there who cares more about that flash drive around her neck than her health. they'd probably kidnap her to get that shit. XD
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you in a while. But I have been trying hard to responding to all of you. All of you know have exceeded fifteen thousand friends and I thank you all for your support and kindness.
Hey I'm inviting you and your friends to please feel free to down load my "Catch-Up" the second song. I opened them up no charge just click on down load by the smaller picture of myself. Just a small token of my appreciation to you.
Again thank you all for passing by and your support.
it leaked!? D: i hate when that happens. but i love it too. and i remember P saying he was going to try and bring back that chaotic sound from the first cd, so i'm really excited. :D
i know, man! Death Cab For Cutie already released their album in May. Then there's N*E*R*D's that comes out in a few days. and Coldplay's comes out on the 17th. it's crazy. luckily, my birthday's on the 6th, so i'll use the generous money i get from relatives to buy them all. i think i'm going to get one of Talib Kweli's cds off of itunes today.
looove jazz, by the way. and the Everyone Nose remix is sick. :D
i did. (: love them both, and anxiously awaiting their new one on the 10th.
i haven't really gotten into much since then. i did find this one guy the other day, whose name i just can't remember.. Talib Kweli! that was it. he's good.
i just finished Fly or Die, and right now Chariot Of Fire, Trasher, and Drill Sergeant are my favorites. so are Maybe and She Wants To Move, but those don't count because i've heard 'em before. XD
well, let's see. it worked for Fly Or Die, but none some of the songs off of In Search Of aren't working. i think it's because they're not mp3s. i'll just download those. thanks again! that was loads easier than using limewire. :D
yep. and Lupe. unfortunately, Lupe had the shortest set. i was definitely upset about that. Rhianna wasn't that good. i mean, she was ok. but, ehh. she just always looks bored to me.
but Kanye was just out of this world. the set, the energy, everything. it was crazy.
and i know what you mean about being upset. i missed Radiohead last night. D:
