SYNOPSIS:
Dedicated to the label Huang Huo, pioneers of Malaysian Chinese independent music, the documentary traces their famous trip to China in 2000 to find international recognition only to return disillusioned. For one month, the band stayed at Rockers Village in the outskirts of Beijing where underground musicians lived like farmers and dedicated themselves to their socio-political songs.
The Malaysians tried to blend in, looking for gigs in pubs and bars, performing illegally without license, all the while desperate to make an impression and at the same time adapt to the alien environment. The movie also looks at how this devastating "baptism of fire" became a seminal point in the development of the Malaysian Chinese independent music scene.
