"Dubbed 'the Afrika Bambaataa of Minneapolis,' Truthmaze is one of the few MCs who could credibly rap, 'North Side full-throttle/Mister Influence, I taught Aristotle,' as he spits on his new, long-awaited solo debut, Expansions + Contractions (Psoems 1:1) (Tru Ruts/ Speakeasy Records). The album is a true event, combining the full range of his past live music and electro into a carnival of poetry, hard funk, and raw rap, with guests ranging from multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Ylvisaker to fellow ex-Micranot I Self Devine." -- Peter Scholtes, City Pages

One of the most dynamic spoken word artists on the scene, and a noted actress, Sha Cage performs across the US and internationally. She has been appropriately called 'The Priestess of the Word.' A striking mix of spoken word and theatre, her performances have left audiences simultaneously in awe and moved by her words. Not afraid to tackle difficult issues, her writing canvases topics from police brutality, the image of women in hip hop and commitment to community, and is rooted in her rhythms of her native Natchez, Mississippi. Her work has taken her all across the U.S, to South Africa, England, France, The Netherlands, Belgrade and Croatia, Mali, and Canada.
Sha Cage is an multi-disciplinary artist, poet, professional actor and playwright who works administratively with Mama Mosaic Theatre, Trú Rúts Endeavors and The MN Spoken Word Association(MNSWA). She is the lyricist of what the press quotes as "Trú Rúts' sexiest and creation; Dark n Lovely female group"
She is the recipient of several grants, awards, and commissions including a TCG, a Playwright Center Many Voices Residency, a Forecast Public Arts Grant, a SASE/Jerome literary grant and a Verve Grant. In addition to Mosaic's Women and War play, she is currently developing a new Hip Hop Theater play titled 'Fly Girls' which canvases issues facing women in the hip hop industry and provokes dialogue around race, gender and leadership.
She has played several starring roles such as The Bride in Blood Wedding, Venus in Venus, Hester in Fucking A, Women in Brown in For Colored Girls, and the Princess in The Green Bird. Her play Famous Amos, was produced by Illusion Theater to sold out audiences. And she has currently completed her debut CD, Amber People.
Sha Cage teaches workshops and is available for performances in all arenas and to all audiences. She is also interested in collaborations with other musicians, producers and artists. If you are interested in adding Sha Cage to your project, event or recording, for general booking, or to get her EP '14th Street Invisible' or upcoming album 'Amber People' you can contact: info@truruts.com. Or hit her up with a message here.
Although her management team helps to maintain her site ...she sees every message that comes in and when not traveling does her best to respond immediately.

You are the very last drop of an exquisite, full bodied, crimson wine.
And it's time. It's time that you know....that like a kiddie book, "I love to read you." I love to drag my fingers softly down your soul...Close my eyes, decipher weight, measure substance, your tortured moan is my sustenance.
The cadence of your voice alone guides me home and the butterflies in this stomach fill me with a frenzied brush of downy wings. Mmmmm..you tend to make me think all kinds of irreverent things.
Those petite tumbling wonders dip and soar literally intoxicated on the unspoken promise of your rapid heart beat, which in itself is a feat because when you touch me I can barely stand on my own....two feet that is...
without your palm to the small of my back that is...
and my cheek hard up against the wall...that is.
Your hot breath stirs sensitized skin, I'll take you in..and in return for this blissful haze I'll spill out formal words for days.
While midnight's sharp inhale at the impending morn lets fall her ebony gown in foreplay with the sun, I'll grasp calloused hands so tender. Your lips part with a secret smile. Our bodies will tell the story that our lips shall not defile...
because your half-crooked grin makes me dizzy and sears straight to my center. You're like my very own personal satisfaction mentor.
So let me be the voice backed by the dawn that drips unspeakable beauty right on down your awakening sky before sleep start sucking gently on our brains and we lose our how, our where, and our why.
And darling, I am spun, spun, spun like a rogue planet out of orbit, dazed by your brilliance and set alight. I am wound up so tight that if I were a bit more brave I might say... I might say...
I actually decided to start college in Spring! So I can do an internship during Fall depending on what the internship is and when is it during the day because I also work trying to save up also. Let me know asap so I can look at my schedule and talk to my managers =D

by J. Otis Powell! - One doesn’t get rid of moth by starting fire In a closet. One doesn't dump baby with dirty Bath water. So why give all up for change? So what is ready and what for? Three hundred and sixty is Plenty round enough; so how much Change you need? What do you mean by ready for Revolution? I mean I’ve read slave narrative till I was blue I’ve listened to so many shades of Blues that I only got abstract truth. Down don’t bother me no mo cause I get down before I get up in the Morning and I function just below the funk all Day long. What I mean by ready is come Correct or don’t come. What I mean is I’m already changing the world Every time I change my mind. What are you doing? What I mean is tomorrow is my Palette What? Is revolution. ~J. OP!~
I'm not sure if it is me you're seeing walking in the streets because, sadly enough, I moved from Minnesota about 5 weeks ago. I'm hiding out and recharging at home in Detroit for the summer and moving to NYC in the fall...
But if it was me you saw, living life, then I'm sorry I didn't wave back to your honking. Seeing you would have most definitly brightened my day.
Hey! No worries at all. I'm totally booked with reahearsals, work, visiting family, art shows, recording albums, moving out of apartments, planning parties, and figuring out my future (eek). Are you going to be at the Blue Nile for that 11th show?
I wish I could of made it too. I also wished I could have just took the chance of being a youth mentor at the U, was it? Yeah I thought the job I got was going to be good but I didn't even last 1 day. But anyway, a writing group? Sounds good. Just let me know whats good. Like the schedule of it and all cause Im starting summer school July 8th.
hello back. up in the woods, girl-children everywhere, it's beautiful here. i'm lookin forward to seeing all my folks when i head back south... it's funny you mention yer eye because i got a shiner three or four days ago & it's really dramatic looking, everyone is like "dude, what happened to you?" & i like to make up outlandish incriminating stories about the other counselors, but really i just got popped in the face by a piece of hardware that fell from the top of a flagpole.. but hey. i could almost use that eyepatch right now...
