Sounds Like
Angels in a hurricane, drinking whiskey and taking vicodins.
On a Saturday early, Friday just finished, at Safari Sam’s about half past midnight, it was time to get Sassy, a San Francisco treat for those that stayed late. The cream Trixie Delicious (Lynda Mandolyn) morsel was covered in liquorish black and fishnets, back slapping a guitar and sharing salty Bay vocals with the orange feline frizz Kitty Largewood (Christa DiBiase) sticking it hard behind drums. That’s all these ladies needed to strike straight to the point an instant idea in three-minute songs, ninety seconds in others, then on to the next ditty, the next thought, the next burst of blatant emotion. Ooh-aah-slap you with power chords and beat you steady with drums while shouting rants in lyrical bursts, then done, making listeners want more, uncertain if they heard it all. Categorize the band Sassy as: what the heck just happened, that’s the fastest female twosome climax ever seen and heard of. And keeps coming over and over. A matchbook performance. A tweak in tune, a clack of the sticks, and like a strike of a single match, their songs spark-up, flame hot, burn hard, scorch finger tips, and drop smoldering. Then they rip the next match and flare up again. Spark – burn – repeat. Matchstick Punk Pop.

Trixie Delicious aka Lynda Mandolyn (Fabulous Disaster) and Kitty Largewood aka Christa DiBiase (Girlband / Browntown West) decided to team up and create a garage rock / harmony extravaganza! Lynda, sick of the “pop punk” scene, was looking for a drummer who could harmonize with her, enjoyed long walks on the beach and cranked Andrew Sisters and Laura Lee tunes instead of the Sex Pistols. They both enjoy binge drinking, fake eyelashes and shopping at Wet Seal. In the short time they have been together they have shared the stage with The Donnas, The Dickies, Von Iva, Donita Sparks and Nerf Herder. Sassy!!! blows doors and minds with their two-piece guitar and drum attack complete with matching stage attire. Their new album, “Get a Grip” (Good Trouble Records) was recorded by Donny Newenhouse at Center of The Mile here in San Francisco.
Yes Motherfuckers, this song was for US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sassy!!! Live at Safari Sams! 03-07/08
Some of the songs I found to be quite haunting in a witchy, voodoo drum beat and soul sister kind of way. Also there's that weird Andrews Sisters cum girl group Phil Specter vibe mixed in with a bit of Bo Diddley/Bossa Nova action that they do (which is infused with a pop spirit: short and melodic songs that are driven both rhythmically and harmonically, which is rare esp when you mix it w/ a sort of punk rock cum party attitude) that is really quite unique, spine-tinglingly so. It's the way that those harmonies blend in with the heavy guitar ROCK action that makes it special, I think. It helps loads that their chops are well in evidence. I mean, the Sassy thing would probably still work even if they were just starting out, but it works so much better now that these girls are truly seasoned players. Plus, the soul/street sister between song patter is pretty funny. They made me laugh. Trixie's voice is so strong and versatile. Cool version of Sweet Child too!---Kurt Danielson--TAD
