An electro/ Hindustani/ jazz/ trip-hip-hop soundtrack of our mashed up, deeply rooted lives .... In the words of the great performance poet Sekou Sundiata, ‘Samita’s work is both an embrace and an argument with the past. Its effect is to create an up-to-the-minute aesthetic that reflects that transnational, planetary, technologically sophisticated culture of the 21st century. She is a citizen of the world.’ Says All About Jazz, 'Sinha has an extremely strong stage presence, always exuding a sense of control, both technically and emotionally. Her voice could change from extroverted to vulnerable within one phrase, all while balancing the feel of tune with that of the ecstatic.’ Samita began training in Indian classical music at age ten in Flushing, the same time she began playing piano and singing in choral and jazz ensembles and musicals. In 2002 she received a Fulbright to study in the guru-student tradition in India with Dr. Alka Deo Marulkar. During this time she developed her original sound and performed it around India and the Middle East: "'Unique' has generally come to mean 'slightly out of the ordinary,' but Samita Sinha's voice warrants the true meaning of the hackneyed accolade... mesmerizing. This is fusion… in the best sense: she effortlessly, seamlessly weaves [sounds] yet keeps their distinct flavors intact." (Time Out Dubai) Since returning to New York City in 2004 her conspirators have included Sunny Jain, Sekou Sundiata, Dave Sharma, Marc Cary, Guillermo Brown, Adam Klipple (AK 88), Jesse Neuman, Dan Fabricatore, Sonny Suchdev, Matana Roberts, Terence Murren, Tomas Fujiwara, Daniel Carter, Achyut Joshi, and many more. Her band KAASH's debut album "Seep" was named a Billboard Magazine Top 5 Hear and Now. She is currently at work on a new project, ANATOMY, with pianist/ producer Marc Cary.
