Jason Ricci’s Harmonica Getaway
For intermediate to advanced diatonic harmonica players
-Three days of intensive and fun harmonica instruction with no attitude at high altitude, featuring intimate workshops, performance and interaction with internationally acclaimed Harmonica players, performers and instructors: Jason Ricci (Nashville), Chris Michalek (Phoenix) Michael Peloquin, Peter "Mad Cat" Ruth, Ronnie Shellist, George Brooks, and Paul Davies), special guest Buzz Krantz and Jason’s band NEW BLOOD!
-“Rockers in the Rockies” is an affordable three day getaway featuring Seven teachers and Delta Groove recording artists New Blood. “Rockers in the Rockies” focus is on teaching modern harmonica playing, how to do and apply over-blows/over-draws, what can be done without over blows, setting up and customizing diatonic harps for better playability and chromatic playing, positions including and beyond 1st, 2nd and 3rd, amplifiers, microphones, pedals and for the first time ever unique and direct interaction and performance with a proffessional, touring live band (New Blood) who will offer direct tips and personal feed back! Although some of the getaway will discuss Blues music and the application of modern playing techniques and their use in the Blues the intention of the camp is to focus on all music types and the diatonic harmonica in general with the blues as a reference point only.
-Jason's Ricci's focus will be aimed at helping the "Blues Player" bring their blues licks into the second and third octaves of the harmonica modernizing that Rocker’s technique and sound while maintaining a respect and reverence for the power and legitimacy of the old and new traditional masters. Helping him/her achieve this goal and taking it even further into Jazz, Celtic and other genres of music will be modern jazz diatonic monster: Chris Michalek and all round sought after instructor, side man, composer and session man: Michael Rubin.
-"Rockers' in the Rockies” unique aim is too focus on intermediate and advanced harmonica instruction emphasizing modern playing techniques, scales, basic theory and solo structure for the purpose of improvising in ANY genre of music. Rockers in the Rockies mission is to explore what techniques and approaches work rather than exclude and focus on what dose not both musically and philosophically, the idea is to include all ideas for a free and all encompassing learning method that takes the “Way of No Way”.
- Students (Known as “Rockers”) will listen, participate and jam while learning and applying techniques like advanced bending, scales and multiple scale exercises (with and without over-blowing). Although all ability levels will be welcomed this getaway is designed to assist the need of the intermediate or advanced player interested in growing musically by exploring chromatisicm on the diatonic, scales, harmony, and breaking out of the "Blues Box" in general.
Knowing how to over-blow is NOT a prerequisite for the weekend, being open to and willing to learn is.
Minor Topics that will be overviewed, naturally, but NOT discussed in-depth are listed below. Again these topics will be discussed gently, however “Rockers in the Rockies” intention is to provide an atmosphere where advanced players and/or non-blues players can get their needs addressed thoroughly.
NOT OUR PRIMARY FOCUS
1. Tongue blocking vs. Lip Pursing. (Why one is better, or choosing just one)
2.) Basic bending, and getting single notes. (Rockers are expected to have mastered this before arrival)
3.) The importance of Little Walter, Big Walter or Sonny Boy solo's and/or note for note tab etc...
4.) How to hold a harmonica. (Rockers are expected to have mastered this before arrival)
6.) Why Blues music and the old masters is the only relevant path towards harmonica education and mastery.

Okay..now you're in the middle of your Rockers in the Rockies Denver Renaissance Seminar..and I'm missing out again. :( But thinking good thoughts and hoping you're all having a fabulous time. Love to everyone..and to Michael - hope you're taping this one - or recording some of it..and an extra big hug to my friend Buzz :) Elizabeth
Aaarrgggghhhhh....I want to be there...but it's coming so close on the heels of Buckeye, I just don't believe I can get away again so soon..and then, I'm just not qualified enough a diatonic player (it's for people way more advanced than me :( but my Jason'll be there and I can laugh at Michalek's jokes... :) This is going to be amazing...Anyone who admires these guys and can get away is going to miss a FABULOUS time, taught by people who really know how tp teach...imagine also getting to sit in with New Blood AND Chris' Band? How cool! I just wanna be a fly on the wall .... with a recorder.

Hi Jason (and Brady!)
I just want to tell anyone who's considering this...but maybe hasn't met Jason or heard him play or watched him teach...my advice is, DO IT! I would sign up in a minute if I could. Jason is a fantastic dynamic charismatic fun and virtuosic (yeah, it's a word)player; and he's also a great teacher. My bet is you're gonna come away a better player and you're gonna have a great time at it.
Damn! Wish I could be there...
