Perk up an ear and listen here!
This is our story, in all its radiant glory!
We originally formed our teen (15-17 yrs old) knitting group at the Trails West Branch Library in Independence, MO. during the winter of '04. Somewhere along the way of learning to recognize intricacies in the yarn, we realized we wanted to create a larger knitting community and by doing so, donate our knits to an outreach project. Next we considered which project to commit towards. Though there are already several projects in existence that help children internationally, we wanted our program to help our friends at school. Polychromatic Purlers was created to raise awareness on child abuse in an effort to speak out for our school friends and others.
Once a year our group will take projects that we have created and vandalize the nation with them. This sounds confusing, but let me clarify. You, the knitter make a knitted thing (scarves, gloves, booty's, etc.) that would be used by a child. On Jan. 2, we knitters take these items and place them around our city. It doesn't matter if one lives in a city or the suburbs, we creative knitters can always find places to put our creations. In a way, we are infusing our town with knowledge, and helping to make a difference by doing so.
