March 19, 1982 “Rudes! Rudes! Come on, get up!” I hear a voice yelling to me through the curtains in my bunk. As I slide the curtains open I see Randy standing in the doorway of the tour bus.
“What’s going on?” I ask with a yawn as I wipe the sleep from my eyes.
“We’re at the bus depot and Andy’s going to take Rachel and me up on a plane to see the country side. Get dressed and come with us! It’ll be fun.”
“What time is it?” I ask, fighting back a yawn.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Randy says with a shrug. “About 8 a.m.”
“Oh that’s all right, Rand, you go ahead. I’m just going to wait until we get to Orlando before I get up.” I put my head back down on my pillow.
“OK, but you’ll be sorry you missed it!” Randy kids as I watch him step out of the tour bus and into the quiet Florida morning.
I pull back the curtains in my bunk and go back to sleep, never to see my friend Randy Rhoads again.
I've been a professional recording and performing artist worldwide for over 25 years. As a member of Ozzy Osbourne’s band, from March 1981 to September 1982, I toured the world in support of the “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary Of a Madman” records. My bass playing can be heard on Ozzy’s multimillion selling CD “Tribute” and “Speak of the Devil” CD and DVD.
As a member of Quiet Riot, from September 1982 to January 1985, I recorded the multi-platinum albums “Metal Health”, the first Heavy Metal debut to reach #1 on the Billboard charts and “Condition Critical”. During this period I headlined worldwide tours, appeared on numerous MTV videos and was voted #1 Bassist in Circus Magazine for 1983.
As a member of Whitesnake, from April 1987 to September 1994 I recorded the multi-platinum album “Slip of the Tongue”. During this period I also performed worldwide on headline tours in support of the multiplatinum “1987” and “Slip of the Tongue” albums and appeared on 6 MTV videos.
As a member of the reunited Quiet Riot, from May 1997 to August 2003, I performed worldwide on headlining tours and as special guests in support of the Quiet Riot CDs “Alive and Well” and "Guilty Pleasure". I also appeared on VH1’s Quiet Riot, Behind the Music. In November of 2003, “Quiet Riot Live in The 21st Century” DVD was released after the group disbanded. My recordings with all of these artists combined have sold over 30 million copies.
In February of 2004, I joined Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force for the U.S. 30 city “Attack Tour”.
Since April of 2004 I've been a proud member of the multi-platinum Heavy Metal group DIO.
When not touring with DIO I also tour with Blue Oyster Cult.
Besides my musical accomplishments, I've also demonstrated Acid, Vegas and DVD Architect software at the Sony Pictures booth during the 2004 Winter NAMM Show, released the “Acid for Non Linear Editors” training DVD directed by Douglas Spotted Eagle for the VASST training series and created the “Working Man’s Bass” loop library exclusively for Sony Pictures’ Acid Software.
