The strain of the ropes holding your life when ur two hundred feet up a tree wondering if the balif's gonna just cut the rope holding you're life, like they have before... So... 3rd March comes and goes and Camp Florentine is still strong... 10 - 20 people actively working to protect their valley home from the intustrial logging opperations in the nearby rain forest. So Christams was busy, jolly and very festive... with around 40 people on camp... there was a present ceremony, with gifts kindy donated by the local tip shop in Hobart... Thanks u guys...
The main summer events have been Guns and Dozzers... Lose u'r Excluxion tour... A week of continuous actions against working logging coupes in oldgrwth areas... The Upper Florentine Festival - A DIY Carnival... went down a storm, raised us enough money to buy some well needed tools, and provided a well needed exsuce for us all to let our hair down! And now the focus on camp is building a winter house, b4 the weather turns... More soon from Camp florentine... Also check the stillwild still threatened my space
Back in Tassie's ancient forests!!!! Ahhh But the destruction continues... While I have been away , for 10 months in the uk the logging gaints Gunn's Ltd with the help of Forestry Tasmania have cleared vast tracks of land, burning the clearfelled coupes, and the lush, primeval rain forest turned into Eucalyptus mono-culture for the rest of our live-times and way behond... For a cash crop for low grade paper. The wood chips are currentley exported to Japan for paper production, while a small amount is turned into veneer chip board in highley polluting plants. A wood fired power station is also planned as well as a new gaint pulp mill set to consume i think it's 1.5 million tonnes of wood chips per year! So if you're circumstances don't allow you to get up on the front line and protest day in day out... fund an activist and know your money's going to the right place... instead of sitting in the bank creating interest for the IMF...
