...LIKE A HURRICANE MADE OF ZOMBIES ALBUM REVIEWS:
KID KAMELEON REVIEW (XLR8R MAGAZINE USA):
The Teknoist has created the friendliest monster, or perhaps a monstrous friend, with this, his first album, his hurricane of sonic zombies. Endless creative twists and turns weave together (or is it weld and smash?) chunks of metal, jungle, hip-hop and even oddly touching ambient/string-y moments. It's an album that reminds you that the line between laughing and crying, hating and loving is sometimes so thin as to be indistinguishable. And for all it's raucous and riotous fun that's sure to mash-up any country that gives a damn about interesting electronic music (the world - America) and/or hardcore (the world + America), for all it's riffs that should leave punks happily sprawled in the mud, it's the moments of genuine feeling that make the whole thing work as an album. That make it worth listening to 70+ minutes of pure, mental, loveable, horrible and fantastic TEKNOISSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
MACHEEN BOI REVIEW:
When asked to write a review one of the best albums I have heard in years, by arguably one of the most talented producers out there, I wondered how I would keep it impartial. Here goes... this album starts off about as ambient as hardcore can get and builds up to cover all respectable variations of core. The use of atmospherics and melodies seems to soften the blow of the unadulterated kick drum frenzy that ensues in the bottom end. This only adds more depth and emotion to the tracks, each one which genuinely feels to take you on a journey into the twisted brain wrong of a one-off man mental. There is not a single track that can be described as filler, each track is teaming if ingeniously engineered aggression. With this album The Teknoist sets the benchmark for producers who want to remain “dancefloor” friendly, but by experimentation can encompass a roller coaster of emotions, sounds, genres and ideas into one unique experience. The only downside to this album is not enough people will hear it.
EUSTACHIAN REVIEW:
Miike surprised us both with an amazing sonic experience on his new album. With a murderous approach to introducing his classic UK 'kill em all' hardcore, and his washed out convoluted percussion work. The album itself stands on a whole new merit combining new elements of drum and bass, and sporadic metal seamlessly drenched in a baroque melody driven nightmare. Some new things to note that surprised us especially about this debut album from The Teknoist is the utter speed and precision of his tracks. They take a progressive step towards something fresh and new in the ever evolving 'Core' scene.
SCHEME BOY REVIEW:
Miike Teknoist, the man, the myth and now finally the album! I’ve had the honour of working (and playing) alongside Miike for many years now. I’ve heard his sound evolve from heavy-weight, Deathchant style UK hardcore to what is now something that can’t be pigeonholed, a sound truly unique to The Teknoist.
Like a Hurricane Made of Zombies isn’t hardcore in the traditional sense of the word. Sure it’s got all the kickers you could ever ask for, but it’s so much more than that, it’s got depth, detailed composition, slick production and more breaks that an A & E department!
Hurricane sees Miike drawing from all of his favourite genres, be it metal, jungle or ambient electronics, it’s all thrown in the melting pot and fused together to make the most savagely fierce, yet beautiful album you can expect to hear for a long time.
Miike passed some these tracks to a DnB label (I won’t say which) a while ago and was told that the sound was about 4 years ahead of it’s time and declined to release them. What utter fools. This sound is NOW and you better get used to it, because this album has just raised the yard stick for all who dare to follow.
EMO HUNTER REVIEW:
After various releases on planet mu,deathchant, ninja columbo and ad noiseam the teknoist finally brings us his first album "like a hurricane of zombies"and what an album it is. ive been into his music for quite some time and generally it is smash you in the face music that would make ya granny have a heart attack if played to near to her, this on the other hand is a little bit different, dont get me worng, you still wouldnt want to play it to your nan but there are pleasent little suprises throughout this album, synthy suprises...you get ur first taste of this about 3 minutes into opening tune "32 days" and it continues all the way through this exemplery album...
its the mix of harsh and abrasive beats with lush and superbly layered synths and moments of ambience that make this such an absorbing record to listen to,takin inspiration from all corners including metal, hip hop, jungle, ambient, hardcore and more there really isnt much more i believe that could of been done with this 62 minute album that is brilliantly(i really dont used that word lightly)produced bit of music, and because its so layered and theres so much to take in it will not leave your cdplayer, record box or ipod in quite some time.the ambinet bits are nothing short of pure beauty and the the typical teknoist beats and breaks are filth....
if i had to describe it in one sentance it would be this, like climbing all the way to the top of a mountain, feeling relieved, taking in the sunshine then jumping off the top
Brilliant
SINGLE REVIEWS:
Planet Mu 128 review by Warpmart
First record of the year from Planet-Mu who are definitley onto something with this release. Two tracks that manage to do what seems like the impossible, make hard techno sound boundary pushing avant guarde and best of all lush and emotional.
Dolphin's orchestral led 'Soul Cannibal' manages to combine a techno sensibility with depth, whilst The Teknoists Closing Down does a similar thing with piano keys, stemming the harshness of the drum track with panicked sorrow.
Planet Mu 128 review by Boomkat:
Brand new slice of vinyl from the Planet Mu oven, this split 12" features Dolphin and The Teknoist in a healthy face-off to see who can melt your needle first. Considering this is their debut for the label, neither Greg Dolphin or Mike Teknoist seem to be suffering from first night nerves - with both delivering the kind of piping hot gabba/glitch epics that would have Beowulf running to the hills. Topping their spasticated beats with piano and strings respectively, Dolphin and Teknoist prove they understand the need for a bit of light amongst the dank digital underpass they choose to inhabit. Ouch!
Planet Mu 128 review by Failme.net:
ll assume that a lot of you don't listen to gabba. Understandable reasons: suspect DJ fodder, all sounds the same, slightly out-of-reach BPM's, the drugs need to be fucking good to enjoy it. But there are exceptions, like UK Hardcore heroes DJ Dolphin and The Teknoist. Teaming up for two blazing slices of ultra-spacious, well-crafted 70mm hyperspeed techno. Purchase anything by these guys or anything on the Deathchant label and you'll find hardcore that doesn't do dumb
Ninja Columbo 1 review by Boomkat:
Gabber badboys teknoist and dolphin shit out a doublepack of scathing hardcore electronics for homegrown imprint ninja columbo. Fresh from a release on Hellfish's Deathchant imprint, they deliver 6 tracks of focussed gabber glitch precision and hardcore electronics strictly for the roughest 'floors around. The material has been tried and tested on systems from Rotterdam to Parrs Wood and everywhere in between to brutal effect, veering from 4x4 nihilistic hardcore warfare, to unsane breakcore spazzouts knitted together with industrial strength filters and zhark-esque gloomy dankness. Standout cuts for them with itchy feet are 'lets build a nerd fort' and 'the awakening' but for my money every tracks a winner, guaranteed floor movers. Champagne hardcore heavier than yer mam.
Ninja Columbo 2 review by Boomkat:
Ninja Columbo on another mission to make you dance harder. Gabber poster boys Teknoist and Dolphin have been grafting hard in the lab, perfecting their distinctive fusion of glitchcore processing with the filthiest filtered 180bpm kicks this side of the North Sea. With the Planet Mu release imminent, the deadly double act are on prolific form at the moment, even expanding into grimy territories on future projects (watch this space!). 'Stand Up, Step aside' is solid floor dedicated hardcore, no f*ckin about. The Teknoist cut wins for me,'rastafrogian baycore' is a shit title but don't be fooled! Dolphin's 'crowdrocka' is the easier option, get your party started with this and you're in for a good night.
