This is the official Waterboys Myspace page, overseen by Mike Scott and maintained by Paige (right), with tech support from Ian and back-up from John.
The Waterboys belong to no movement, genre, school or fashion. We play Waterboys music - and good luck to any brave person who tries to categorise it. We've been based in London, Dublin, Galway, New York and Findhorn, Scotland, and we've made 12 albums: The Waterboys (1983), A Pagan Place (84), This Is The Sea (85), Fisherman's Blues (88), Room To Roam (90), Dream Harder (93), Secret Life Of The Waterboys (94), A Rock In The Weary Land (2000), Too Close To Heaven (01), Universal Hall (03), Karma To Burn: The Waterboys Live (05) and Book Of Lightning (07), plus Mike Scott's two solos: Bring 'Em All In (95) and Still Burning (97).
Over 40 players have served in this band: rockers, groovers, popsters and folkies, explorers and traditionalists, dreamers and doubters, heart warriors and mercenaries, some for days, some for years. Where are we going? We follow the twists and trails of the music wherever it leads, wherever the adventure unfolds.
The current ensemble is Mike Scott on vocals and guitar, Steve Wickham on electric fiddle, Richard Naiff playing keyboards, bassist Mark Smith and drummer Damon Wilson. You're welcome to hang out with us here on our little island of cyberspace ~ or come dance and dream with us in the physical world at a town near you soon.
bring em all in bring em all in bring em all in bring em all in bring em all into my HEART.
Can I move to Norway as well? I love A-ha too, and they live there. Have you met the lovely Morten Harket on your travels over there? Did you know he is inspired by the Norwegian poet Havard Rem? A man after your own heart :-) Now that would be a collaboration that would be musically intriguing.... !!! :-) Helen x
Sorry bout the group mail (despite your name being cunningly added into the first line. How did I do that?)
Anyways, stuck up some new recordings of songs we did in the album session in Electrical Audio. None of the songs are mastered yet and there are a couple of tweaks here and there to be done but I thought I"d stick em up so you could get a listen before the album is released.
I"m gonna rotate the songs on an as unyet decided basis (weekly, biweekly, triweekly even??) and include songs that didn"t make the final cut. Watch out for them...
The songs up now are There You Stand, This Is How We Play and Home.
I read in the news today Waterboys that Neil Young will play here in Bergen soon on Aug 26th He wanted to come back according to the paper and the gig will take place at Koengen an ancient square in the bay area where Stones played for 25000 people a couple of years ago I was just thinking & wishing hasn't Neil a 'warm up' band already on this Eurotour
I heard there was a secret chord that Mike played and it pleased the lord but I've never heard it... but you know I really care for music Well it goes like this, last saturday The Poet, Leonard, played the fourth the fifth the minor fall and the major lift the baffled king composing hallelujah My faith is strong and I don't need no proof I saw his beauty in a moonlight night. There is a blaze of Light in his presence... And I couldn't stop my tears... Yes, I have been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you. I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
