Cellist Matt Haimovitz has been on an unusual tour bringing solo cello to non classical venues around the country, he has been selling out and leaving audiences standing at jazz/rock clubs, taverns and coffeehouses across the US and Canada.

From ABC's NIGHTLINE: "Who would think of moving classical music from the reverence of a symphony hall to a punk rock club? When we first discovered Matt Haimovitz, he was preparing to play New York's famed CBGB, an underground rock club that had never featured a classical artist. This was part of the Listening-Room Tour, Matt's effort to bring classical music to venues where people of his generation could listen to classical music in a relaxed setting."

Matt has been touring with a new CD entitled Goulash. "Bartok meets America"; From Bartok to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, cellist Matt Haimovitz brings middle eastern and Romanian folk music to the club. This will be a tour and celebration of folk music as art music, Matt will be on the road with various collaborators from DJ Olive from NYC , Andy Simionescui Romanian violinist, Constantinople a Persian group specializing in middle eastern music, 3 award winning student cellists from McGill University in Montreal. Collaborators include, Pianist Jean Marchand, Guitarist John McLaughlin and others.
