| About MAHACHAKRA |
|
mahachakra (The Great Disc), band project name for artist Yogananda das. Started out as a drummer in Kamaleon, an experimental progressive band in the early 70's in Tijuana, Mexico. Studied electronic music in San Diego, under composer Victor Saucedo (who worked under Karlheinz Stockhausen), working with the VCS3 Putney synthesizer. Took a two year sabatical (75-77) living as a Vaishnava monk to learn about transcendental sound vibrations and mantras, often leading kirtan chanting and playing the mridunga drum (a portable version of tablas). Experimented (circa 1981) with ARP 2600 synth at home for some years. Graphic artist from birth, Macintosh consultant since 1986. Recent breakthrough came in 2004 using Propellerheads REASON Virtual Music Studio Software, transparent transmissions of ideas to hard disc. Also experimenting with LIVE, LOGIC and GarageBand creating an eclectic list of tracks.
