We recorded this live on WNMC in Traverse City, MI. Check out my latest blog entry to get the story behind the tune.
The American musical heritage has a common thread that weaves through blues, jazz, country, and folk music; one which Luke Sayers has woven into his songwriting along with the structure and emotion of pop and rock music.
Luke has been hard at work establishing himself throughout the country over the past 2 years. The former bassist, a songwriter, singer, and acoustic guitarist with Tangerine Trousers left the group to pursue a solo career in the fall of 2004. Since then Luke’s debut solo CD "Songbook; the introduction" was released in 2005, and Luke has reunited with his fellow former Tangerine Trousers band mate Mark Iannace. Their unique sound featuring “the duo's bang-up harmonies at times recalling Barenaked Ladies” (the Grand Rapids Press), nylon string acoustic guitar, and accordion have recently been complimented by the dynamic drumming of Ann Arbor’s Mike Gabelman.
Recent highlights for the group include:
*The Detroit Music Award nominations for Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Songwriter in 2005, Outstanding Acoustic Artist in 2006, and Outstanding Folk Artist in 2007. Mark Iannace also received the 2007 DMA nomination for Outstanding Acoustic Instrumentalist
*1st place in the 2005 Great Lakes Songwriting Contest for Luke’s song “What I should've said"
*The only Michigan artists selected for an official showcase at the 2006 International Folk Alliance Conference (the acoustic roots version of SXSW) in Austin, TX.
Luke Sayers and Mark Iannace released their new EP length CD “Long Way Back” at The Ark on Sunday, May 13th for which they have received the following praise:
“Luke Sayers has a powerful, passionate voice, and it's put to good use on the heartfelt, beautifully written tunes on his new CD." - Martin Bandyke, 107.1FM Ann Arbor
“You have to get out and see Luke Sayers and Mark Iannace. These two are wonderfully
talented songwriters, but it is in the live performance that their music takes on wings.
Their new CD, 'Long Way Back', is a must listen to for fans of thoughtful folk rock."
- Bill Keith, Trinity House Theatre

All I can say is that I am now a full-fledged fan. Your Heartland show last night was an inspiration, and it moves me to tell the people about your music: Hey, people out there reading this, go see Luke live! Buy the CD, too. This is not a paid advertisement, just an enthusiastic response to a great show and a great musician.
