Loquat live review @ The Independent 1/26/2008
Loquat seems to have a substantial level of comfort and appreciation for their hometown crowd, calling out by name a couple of their faux-hecklers. Their dreamy alt-electro filled the room at the Independent with a near-perfect level of sonic saturation. The band is a tight and smooth operation, with singer Kylee Swenson's vocals veering from sexy to sublime. They are rolling out a pre-tour in March for their upcoming album, Secrets of the Sea, and will be hitting up the Southwest and SXSW before returning to the city for a show at Cafe du Nord at the end of the month.—theowlmag.com
“Lots of bands mix electronic and
acoustic instruments, but few
pull it off with the grace—or even
the shimmering melodies—exhibited by this San Francisco group
fronted by Kylee Swenson.”
—San Francisco Chronicle
“The debut full-length from this
San Francisco five-piece is a
masterful work of female-fronted
electronic pop that seems utterly unconcerned with trend....
It’s Yours to Keep is the kind
of album that makes the world
around you slow down.”
—Under the Radar
“In a genre marred by overproduction and, sometimes, a lack
of imagination, Loquat is not
only wonderfully organic but
refreshingly inventive: It’s Yours
to Keep could just become the
soundtrack to your summer.”
—Nylon
“Swenson’s voice soars like
Sarah McLachlan, but her lyrics
cut like Cat Power.”

Wordless Music (“There is no more inventive music series in New York.” - Alex Ross, The New Yorker) is devoted to the idea that the sound worlds of classical and contemporary instrumental music—in genres such as indie rock and electronica—have more in common than conventional thinking might suggest. To illustrate the continuity between these worlds, the series pairs rock and electronic musicians in an intimate concert setting with with more traditionally understood classical music performers.
