Named for front man David Berndt’s jaw-dropping resemblance to Logan’s Run star Michael Yorke, Logan 5 and the Runners are defined by dry Jarvis Cocker-like vocals, Bowie-esque glam balladry, and pulsating electro-rock recalling Gary Newman, later Radiohead and Of Montreal. Their sound is punctuated by big melodies, menacing riffs, buzzing synths, and soulful trumpet. Aptly named after a movie, they are musically and lyrically cinematic, with many of Berndt’s songs blurring the line between earnest tales of love and loss, and theatrical – often sexually-charged – adventures in escapism.
