    Little Fyodor's Interests
GeneralNature, weirdness, schlockness, things that hit me deep, things that bounce off my head and make me laugh, felines, indy/DIY music, mainstream pop music history, libertarianism, "Bob", entertaining the masses, Babushka, public radio--especially my own station, KGNU Boulder & Denver, and WFMU, a phenomenally fantastic station from New Jersey. My own show, Under The Floorboards, airs most 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 11 PM to midnight Mountain time, plus I occasionally fill in on the Friday Afternoon Sound Alternative from one to four. That's at 88.5 FM in Boulder, 1390 AM in Denver and kgnu.org on the web. (And of course Radio 1190 is cool, too!)
MusicWeird shit, old shit, funny shit, scary shit; my tastes go all over the fricken place, from experimental and quirky and noisy and "out there" to pure pop and shlock. I seek out the obscure, but I ain't afraid of the mainstream! Though for whatever reason the popular stuff I like is mostly older. Specifics? Hmmm... been hearing some neat stuff from Japan on WFMU recently, such as satanicpornocultshop. And I really love this accordion disc by Juan Torres I picked up in Mexico that sounds like Spanish skating rink music! I DIG IT!! And then I also really dig that good ol' R&B from the fifties and sixties, when WFMU's playing it (mostly more obscure examples). While there'll always be a place in my heart for well crafted "pure pop" (including from BEFORE the rock era!), I also like stuff that fucks things up, throws things off kilter. And i also love genuine folk musics from around the world, ahhhh.... Anyway, see the Little Fyodor and Babushka space for influences on my own musical output--the punky/personal/popular/weirdo/classic/60's, 70's and early 80's stuff that helped make me Little Fyodor--though it's hardly representative of all that I "like"... Tell ya what, here's a list of stuff that's caught my ear on WFMU recently, enough to make note of it: Barnacled, Bob Hund, Bubbadinos, Ex-Girl, From Quagmire, Jimmy Bryant, Kazmi with Rickies, Kitty Brazelton/Dadadah, L.A. Drugs, LCD Sound System, Missing Brazilians, Phillip Kent Bimstein, Pierre Bastien, Rasputina, Robbie Fulks, Steroid Maximus, Tarpig, Teenage PhDs, The Clean, The Driving Stupid, The Swirlies, Tinklers, Raymond Scott, Puddle, Crescent, Paris 1942, Sisterhood of Convoluted Thinkers, Wilco, Poternoster, Alexander Rishaug,, Kelley Stoltz, Henry Phillips, Elf Power, Ergo Phizmiz, The Clerkenwell Kid, satanporncultshop, Caustic Window, Love of Life Orchestra, Smog, Josephine Foster, Minny Pops, Sylvia, Jeff Coleman, Catherine Irwin, Joanna Newsome, catherine jauniaux, Mum, Stereo Total, gelbart, vic godard & subway sect, che-shizu, gang gang dance, Acid Jam, Acid Mothers Temple, Arnold Dreyblatt, Arthur Doyle, Astral Infinity Orch w/Sun Ra, Avey Tare, Panda Bear and the Geologist, Band of Endless Noise, Big Poo Generator, Big Ray & The Futuras, Bikini Kill, Borut Krzisnik, Breakestra, Breeders, Broadcast, Bruce Haack, Carl Stalling, Cecil Leuter aka Roger Roger?, Charles Hayward, Nick Doyne-Ditmus, che-shizu, Chessie, Clinic, Comets on Fire, Conrad Schnitzler, Dean Drummond, Deer Hoof, DJ Me DJ You, Dressy Betsy!, Eardrum, Echo & The Bunnymen, Elmore James, Eppy Yamakama & Bradford Reed, Factory, Fast Forward, Fastbacks, Fawn Fables?, Fridge, Gene Moore, George Antile, Giant Sand, Grip Weeds, Hall Of Fame, Harvey Sid Fisher, Heldon/Pinhas, Henry Flynt, HNAS, Hoven Droven, Howard Hello, Ilitch, Ill Ease, Jack-O-Motherfucker, Jon, Jon Wayne, Julius, Laura Cantrell, Laura McFarlane, Let's Audio, Life Without Building, Magic Carpathians, Mainliner, Mellow, Mercury Rev, Microstoria, Motelli Skronkle, Mouse on Mars, Muma Sounds, Music From Other Planets, Nino Nardini, Noonday Underground, Oh OK, Old Time Relijun, Porcupine Tree, Roberto Juan Rodriguez, Roy Smeck and Eddie Lang, Schneider TM, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Shelley Hirsch, Simon Joyner, Solex, Sukia, Swollen Monkeys, Th' Faith Healers, The Apostles, The Blacks, The Factory, The Fox, The Gwens, The Living Jarboe, The Mops, The Oxfords, The Proclaimers, The Softies, The Sound of American Doomsday Cults vol 14, The Trespassers W, The Walkmen, Think, Ultra Light, Urs Blochlinger Tettet, Vito Acconci, was it Princess or Broadcast?, Wretched Refuse String Band, ... This doesn't count a lot of stuff I've heard and loved but didn't bother to make note of cause it's so old AND obscure that I strongly suspect I'd never find it no matter how hard I looked. And stuff I recognized already I usually wouldn't bother with either. In fact, if the obscurity of much of this stuff makes me look like a snob, consider that I have this disc put out by the Evolution Control Committee that strings together little bits of all the No. 1 hit songs from the mid fifties till sometime in the 90's, and I realized that I liked EVERY SINGLE ONE of the No. 1 hits from the very beginning all the way up until David Cassady's I Think I Love You from the early 70's, and even that I might like sometimes too. My tastes are subject to change too because it's all subjective, so why should I care if I like something one time and not another time? Plus I've taken to heart a qoute of Lou Reed's: "I like trash." Only I've expanded that to: "I have no standards!" I'll like any crap!! If I feel like it. Of course, there's also a lot of crap (and supposedly quality stuff too) that I don't like at all, but not because it's crap, but because it's just how I personally feel about it! It's little different from why I don't generally like coconut flakes, but I LOVE chocolate mousse.... I'm sure there's some underlying complex reason why I like some things and not others, but I don't worry about it.... At the risk of extending an already too long post, I just heard some Dolly Parton on WFMU which reminded me that I've very often been highly impressed by her material (usually heard on WFMU, where they probably play her best stuff!). A lot of people complain about country music, and it's true that current stuff tends to be rather dull, but classic country is some cool shit!
MoviesBergman's The Magician, Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!, Bloodsucking Freaks, Freaks, Aguire Wrath of God, Andy Warhol's Bad, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Plan 10 From Outer Space, Fellini's Satyrcon, American Movie, American Rebel, Rat Pfink a Boo-Boo, Clockwork Orange, Love and Death, Evil Dead 2, Hitchcock's The Birds, Nuts In May, X the Man with the X-Ray Eyes.... Give me the best or give me the worst, or give me a combination of both!!
TelevisionMostly watch the news, though I'll flip around for something stupid if I'm too tired to read. And I do follow the Broncos and watch some of the NFL playoffs, my greatest vice, ha. I like the Fox network cartoons and South Park but rarely watch 'em (don't even get the Comedy Network, for one thing). Past fave shows include the X-Files, Married With Children, Get Smart, the original Star Trek and Car 54 Where Are You? I think my favorite show as a kid was Captain Scarlet, a British marionette sci-fi. Broke my heart one day when as I walking to school I heard some bigger kids making fun of it!!
BooksNotes From Underground, The Possessed, Concrete, Steppenwolf, Miss Lonelyhearts, Germinal, The Sirens of Titan, Candide, Post Office, Wait Until Spring Bandini, Tristessa, anything on pop music history including pop icon bios....
HeroesKill yr idols.

   Little Fyodor's Blurbs
About me:
My name is a tribute to Dostoesvsky, the Prince of Suffering. I'm prone to depression, which has driven me to hyper-analysis of myself and the world. Though I laugh it all as well. Ha-ha. I'm a musician of sorts who plays live with Little Fyodor & Babushka and who has recorded many releases over the years, both solo and with an 80's cassette-networking collective called Walls Of Genius, which was posthumously lauded in a book called Unknown Legends of Rock 'N' Roll as "funnier than hell weirdos." My solo work has recently reached a zenith with BOYD RICE PRESENTS THE VERY BEST OF LITTLE FYODOR'S GREATEST HITS, put out by Discriminate Audio and available at their own website as well as Unpop Art and even Amazon.com. I'm a deejay at KGNU, Boulder & Denver (which streams live on line) who's always looking for do-it-yourself and/or weird music (or even sounds that don't normally qualify as music) to play on the air. My show is called Under The Floorboards and is dedicated to the Insects of Society. And of course you should check out the Little Fydor & Babushka My Space site and my own OFFICIAL website. I occasionally contribute to the comments threads at the Reason Magazine Hit & Run blog (non-libertarians may find the material there shocking, yes). My religion is the Church of the Subgenius. Praise fricken "Bob".
Who I'd like to meet:
Fans, fellow weird & DIY musicians, kindred spirits, anyone who can break through to "a world of my own..."

Hey Lil F,
Just saw a picture of you and wondered how you are. life is good here. working on some films and performances. just got back from Slovakia. That was exciting. I was told American artists don't care who they hurt. All this in response to a squid I sent to a Swedish artist who was apparently hurt by the package. Oh well, fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.

CyberSpud, the SubGenius magazine for hardwired potatoes, has been accidentally uploaded to the Internet, and I have pulled down each page and posted it to my Pics section in the gallery called "CyberSpud".

This issue contains an interview with the Rev. Ivan Stang, UFO investigator Stanton T. Friedman and a cyberpunk story by G. Gordon Gordon.

Check out this ultra-swank magazine and leave comments for Cardinal Sin, the bankroller of this controversial magazine--some call it a hoax, others say disinformation--YOU DECIDE.

Gil says check it out.

Please join BITCH publisher Debbie Rasmussen for a participatory discussion about how - and whether - feminism can become a transformative movement for social change.

* How can we drive attention to the power, privilege and marginalization that continue to play out in feminist communities and how can those of us with power and priviledge become effective, genunine allies to those without it?

* How can we collectively create an independent feminist media - justice movement that doesn't rely on white supremacy, class privelege and economic exploitation?

* Can the idea of "feminism" shift to foreground an uncompromising, transformative commitment to systemic social change or is it time to evolve to new language?
