Adam Deli - (drums, vocals) - Adam minored in music at UGA before earning his J.D. at Florida Coastal here in Jax. He loves the first coast and what it purportedly potentially someday will become, hopefully not a second Atlanta. Adam got his first kit in November 1992 and did almost nothing else for the next 10 years. Mostly a jazzer, he loves the loose style and eccentric sound playing with the Works.
Brennan Hamill - (guitars, mandolin, vocals, keys, feedback) - As a human, Brennan found little time to do the things that really made him happy. One day he took charge of his existence and began treatments to become more than human. Sadly, the treatments failed. ob la di ob la da.
Kevin Peffer - (bass, vocals) - A tumultuous 16th year came to a close for Kevin with the offer of a birthday present from his mother. He wanted a drum set, but his parents felt a bass would be better suited to the home. He agreed and learned his first song within minutes of getting his new gift home. Having played with numerous outfits and persons around the world, yet never really gaining any true experience he leapt at the chance Lackawanna Carriage Works offered in July of 2007. It's his first real band. A recipient of his AA from Florida Community College, he hopes to continue his education further, earning a Bachelor's in Communications and seeks to pursue a career in the radio industry.
Ryan Turk - (guitar, vocals) - Currently 31 years old, Ryan graduated from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts with a major in creative writing and a minor in vocal music/chorus. He then worked his way through an Audio Engineering degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta, graduating in 1996. He's been involved in several local bands such as Lovecraft, Sometimes Always, Super Excitables, Bi Polar Bears and most recently joined The Ignatious Wrylys on their 2007 summer tour before leaving to join The Works. He has worked in local studios recording bands and has experience running live sound in nightclubs. His current project is running a small family-owned indie label called Pawn Shop Blues Records, a division of Abe Livert Records est.1936. Most importantly he is a husband a father to two little boys.
Jeremy Nix - (keys, organ, synth) - aka "Puppy," this 21-year old is the newest and youngest addition to the band. Jeremy has played piano classically since the age of 6, and playing with The Works is his first experience playing in a rock setting. He's currently attending FCCJ for his AA and plans to transfer to UNF for a degree in biology, after which he's considering med school.
Influences
With 5 band members, each person brings their own unique and varied background into the ensemble....but it ends up sounding like something halfway in between Gram Parsons and Wilco.
The Works originally formed around June of 2007 as a collaboration between Damion Waters and Brennan Hamill after the bands they were in, Sensei and ¡Dang! respectively, both broke up on the same day. Needing a drummer, they turned to the late ¡Dang! manager, lawyer-musician extraordinaire Adam Deli. Ryan Turk, having worked with Damion before in prior music ventures, was a natural fit into the mix. He brought an accomplished musical background as a songwriter, performer, musician, producer...well you get the gist of it. Brennan was prepared to play bass himself until he remembered that one of the stalwart fans of ¡Dang!, the admirable Kevin Peffer, could also play bass. Kevin was quickly brought on board and proved himself more than ready to serve as the band’s harmonic foundation. Thus set as a 5-piece ensemble and armed with an extensive back-catalogue of unique songs written by several of the band’s prolific songwriters, Lackawanna Carriage Works entered the music scene and began performing shows. But something was still missing, and by consensus the band began the search for a pianist to fill the gap. He was found and recommended by another ex-¡Dang! member in the person of Jeremy Nix, thus cementing the band at 6 members. The Work’s first show as a full band was on 9/15/07 at Jack Rabbit’s, almost 3 months after the band initially formed.
And then, Damion left for NYC...bummer, right? but The Works is gonna keep it together.
