Friendly Foes started as the solo venture from Ryan Allen - singer and guitar player for Thunderbirds are Now! The other member of the band was a computer that turned off unexpectedly sometimes, often enraging Ryan. The band has now become a POWER TRIO not unlike Cream or Presidents of the United States of America (actually, quite unlike both), consisting of Ryan on guitar and vocals, Lizzie Wittman (of Kiddo & Lettercamp) on bass and Brad Elliott (of various Detroit bands and owner of an impressive beard) on drums. This Myspace site, for now, features demos we've recorded in Lizzie's living room.
The band is currently in the studio - Tempermill, to be exact - working with Dave Feeny (Small Brown Bike, Blanche, American Mars, Thunderbirds are Now!, etc etc) on a full-length album that will be out some time in the fall.
If you want to book a show, email here or at Friendlyfoez@gmail.com. Cheers!
Friendly Foes have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with: Sloan, the Whigs, Rose Hill Drive, the Walkmen, Born Ruffians, Dosh, Anathallo, School of Language, Most Serene Republic, the Jealous Girlfriends, Cadence Weapon, the Golden Dogs, and tons of local budz.
oh, and people are talking:
"a hyper-fuzzed, rousing, rough-around-the-edges rock outfit with sunny-pop in the middle of its jangled shred" - real detroit weekly
"There's hooks here, chief. The big, fat, giant, classic kind born of power chords and harmonies — the likes of which haven't been heard in these parts since, well, probably Toby Redd." - metrotimes
"To be honest, I haven't been able to get entirely into Friendly Foes just yet." - aaron quillen
Hell, yes! You are our new favorite friends. Perhaps we can play together on Hoth before finding a more temperate climate climate. Great show! - Tim/GLMS
