lump is a post-punk Massachusetts quartet who went their separate ways in 1993 and who have reformed 14 years later and are playing their immediate, catchy, and aggressive two-guitar pop to rave reviews.
lump took shape in central Massachusetts - at Fitchburg State College - in 1991, led by guitarist/singer Mark Small, co-guitarist, Rock, Nick Lorenzen on bass and, Matt Debenham on drums.
lump made an EP, Shrinkamatizer, in 1992, recording with Al Petiti (of the Boston band O Positive) and mixing with producer John C. Wood (Gigolo Aunts, HBO’s Reverb series). One result of those sessions was lump’s first single, “thirteen” which charted in CMJ and got the band dubbed "newcomers of the month" in Boston music bible The Noise in early 1993.
lump soon began sharing Boston-area club bills with such touring artists as Gumball, Five Eight, Antietam, Ben Deily, and a pre-Dookie Green Day. In March 1993, lump was invited to play WMBR's revered local live Boston Rock show Pipeline!, recording their show with renowned Fort Apache engineer Carl Plaster.
Not long after though, our story turned sad, as lump disbanded. Nick and Matt moved to New York and played with Scott McEwen (Current Proprietor of Fry Pharmacy Studios in Nashville). Rock and Mark remained in New England and continue to this day to play in numerous other pop and punk bands.
lump are now back together, currently rehearsing and scheduling shows in and around Boston.
They recently played a few very well-received sets in Austin, TX during the week of SXSW, sharing bills with band faves Fivehead, Toddle, and Earlimart, among others.
They hope to hit the studio in the Spring of 2008.

Oh, I see. I need to shoot black and white when you guys play so as to not remind you that you're aging (as if the muscle soreness and exhaustion weren't enough).
Good to know for TX.
Maybe you should just all four of you wear all black and re-name yourselves Slimming Effect (props to Hellweg).
