For Raggamuffin Whiteman aka Ragga Sound International, it
all started when he went on a 1-year student exchange to Jamaica in '94 when
he was only 17 years old.
That's where he started mixing & where he really learned
about reggae, dancehall & soca and was taught the skills from his friends at
Innocence Disco.
Once back in Belgium he continued mixing reggae,
dancehall, r’n’b & soca and also started writing his own lyrics and
performing them whenever he'd mix at parties.
In '99 he went back to Jamaica for 5 months where he mixed
at some gigs, won 2 DJ-battles on Irie FM and cut his first dubplates.
Once back in Belgium he really started working hard
promoting reggae music and the Jamaican culture by organising parties, hosting his own radio show on
Radio URGent (2001-2006), performing live, writing lyrics, mixing at
various gigs (as DJ Raggamuffin Whiteman, Gorilla Sound (when mixing jungle
with Digital Pervert) or Ragga Sound International),
MC-ing for the Bazzheadz Kru & Future World Funk, etc.
In 2002, Raggamuffin Whiteman attended the Red
Bull Music Academy in São Paulo, Brazil, where he linked up with a whole lot
of other DJs & vocalists to discuss music and where he also got lots of gigs
mixing & performing at hiphop clubs & reggae parties, MC-ing at drum 'n'
bass raves and mixing on Brazilian radio.
In 2005 Raggamuffin Whiteman & Digital Pervert founded
Gorilla Sound, a 100% raggajungle soundsystem which had them touring through
a big part of Europe during the various Jungle Mash-Up Tours for which they
always invited guest (2005 Lady Lite (B), 2007a Mad Dem Sound (USA) &
Mainframe (USA), 2007b Unsoundbwoy (AUS), 2008 DJ K (CAN)).
Gorilla
Sound play a mix of own tracks & dubplates mixed with the best classics &
unreleased exclusives in raggajungle, raggabass & raggacore.
Raggamuffin Whiteman is now a well respected DJ mixing at
urban clubs, underground events & major events & festivals like TMF
CoolSweat, Let It Roll (CZ) & Dour Festival.
Resident at Club Decadance (Ghent), mixing regularly in
Prague (Czech Republic) and at TMF CoolSweat (Ghent)and you’ll
also find him mixing at lots of parties through the country and across the
borders.
He’s mixed & performed in Jamaica, Brazil, Austria,
France, Germany, the Netherlands, UK, Spain, Macedonia, Czech Republic, Norway, Slovakia,
Switzerland & Poland, sharing stages with people like Capleton, Cecile,
Lady Saw, Mr Vegas, Ward 21, Anthony B, Wayne Wonder, David Rodigan, Massive
B, Black Chiney,
DJ Storm, Cut Chemist, Madlib,...
