| Dave Olson: General Info
|
| Member Since | 7/7/2007 | | Band Website | sonicbids.com/DaveOlson | | Band Members | I play guitar, sing, and play the harmonic (poorly). I’ve had the privilege to perform and/or record with Matt Winegardner, Marty Letz, Chris Dimond, Dustin Busch, Chris Poma, Amy Finders, Patrick Bloom, Eric Straumanis, Atom Robinson, Richard Medek, and Erik Koskinen. | | Influences | My first 4 records were Thriller, Born in the USA, the soundtrack to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Peter and the Wolf. Musically, I am the lovechild of these influences. Other influences: Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, the Grateful Dead, Greg Brown, Gillian Welch, Dave Moore. Also: Van Morrison (though I'll never be able to sing like him), Randy Newman (I'll never be able to write like him), Mississippi John (I'll never be as cool as him).
| | Sounds Like | Told I sound like John Prine, which is cool. Told I sound "reedy" or "nasal"- not sure how to feel about that, but I'm pretty sure it's true. Comparisons: John Prine, Bill Morrissey, Steve Earl, Ryan Adams. | | Record Label | unsigned | | Type of Label | None |

| About Dave Olson |
|
I started writing and picking up gigs in 1995. Iowa City had a pretty strong roots music scene, and I soaked it up, taking cues from roots rock acts like High and Lonesome and Bo Ramsey and the Backsliders, but especially from folk songwriters like Greg Brown and Dave Moore.
In 2000 I put a band together to record my album "80". Billed as "Dave Olson and the One-Timers" we ended up playing for the next three years in and around Iowa. We shared bills with folks like Neko Case, Big Sandy, the Hangdogs, Johnny Dowd, Mark Mallman, Martin Zeller, and lots more.
I moved up to the Twin Cities in 2003. I've been doing lots of folky shows as a solo act or with Atom Robinson as a duo. More recently I've had the pleasure of picking up some band shows with Richard Medek (Drummer and Hollywood insider) and guitarist Erik Koskinen.
I work as a grocer at a local food co-op. I'm married and I have 2 cats.
