About me:
Born in Windsor, England on Bastille Day of 1976, Christopher “Moonlight” Cooksey soon found himself, off to America, as his father strived to leave the British rock and roll industry, for a new life. There, he spent most of his childhood in the back hills and parks of Southern California, discovering snakes, lizards, animal bones, fossils, and the many other treasures that nature has to offer a small boy. Interspersing these wonderful days, were his trips to the local drug store for ice cream and the wonders of the comic book spinner rack.
In his teenage years, Christopher developed a passion for art, and the nuances of life that most kids his age seemed to take for granted. The injustices of life seemed to glare out at him whilst others either took no notice, or seemed to contribute to with ignorant relish. The fact that pointing this out to people only seemed to garner him scorn, led him to become a part of the LA Goth culture, where he spent most of his time meeting and hanging out with musicians, club promoters, and other artists, while also publishing his own comic book, “The Black Lipstick Curse” with writer and best friend, Frank Kane.
In his 20’s the adventure continued. While becoming a well known figure in the circles he ran, he was privileged to learn from such comic artists as The X-Men’s Paul Smith, gallery artist Ryan Wurmser, and Exhibit A Press’ Batton Lash, whose comic “Supernatural Law” Christopher at one time contributed artwork to. On a list of many profound experiences, two that he would note are: once seeing the ghost of a cat, and being blessed with his wife Faith, with whom he now has a baby girl named Katelyn.
Christopher has been showing in such galleries as The Zander, The Black Cat, Carved in Stone, and Art Is Our Passion (the art school in which he teaches now) for the past seven years. He also still publishes small print run comics, while storyboarding for independent films. His latest project is Moonlight & Mermaids, a quarterly magazine about art.
